Cask conditioned - handpump - JDW Northampton. A black coloured beer with apleasant tan coloured head. The aroma is very full and welcoming. Treacle, malt, chocolate, sweet lactic chanracteristics. The taste is simialr but with the addition of licquorice. A tasty chewy beer. Well brewed and lovely.

Cask conditioned @ Standing ORder (JDW), Soton. Dark colour. Some chocolate nice tasty malts and some fruitiness. Some sweetness in body with light lactic tartness. Well balanced and some pleasing flavours. Perhaps slightly thin in the mouth.

Cask handpull at County Hotel JDW Ashford and Thomas Ingoldsby JDW Canterbury. Black colour with ruby edges. Bubbly tan head. The Ashford sample had too much butter on the aroma for me. Sourish in mouth, but the dominated by butter/caramel. Faint dark malts make their way through, but I wasn’t keen. The Canterbury sample was similar but a little less butter/caramel. Still not something I would want again.1.5/5.0 Re-rate County Hotel, Ashford. So much better. Decent black stout, more like a dunkel really.

Cask at Penny Black, Wetherspoons, Bicester. Poured pretty much black much like I expected. Some sweetness and oaky notes in the aroma, taste has a bit of bite a little sour tang around the edges but tempered with some sweetness, very pleasant.

Bottle. Pours black with a creamy lasting brown head. Nose & taste is mildly roasted with lots of caramel. Medium bodied. Fine bitter roast. Quite drinkable!

A Mes rate: Cask at Baker Street JDW. Black is certainly the right word. The could not be any blacker. Creamy caramel in the nose. Tangy and very sweet in the mouth. Slight sourness with some blackcurrant and salt. Odd stuff.

Cask in Counting House. Aroma is roasty and burnt malt, hints of dark fruit also. Taste is similar very burnt notes however not too bitter so not completly ruined, but not my scene.
