Black, medium beige head. Sweet dark malt aroma. Beautiful darkly roasted malt taste, quite burnt but not unpleasantly at all and not oily. Pleasantly hopped, but that takes a back seat to the maltiness. Some butteriness. Very well balanced, very drinkable. ekstedt (2440), Göteborg, Sweden

Fruity, roasted aroma, slightly nutty, with faint hop notes. Medium bodied and smooth. Well balnced, with an initial sweetness, backed up by a firm bitterness. Very nice. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 11, 2007 Nice dark brown color with reddish hues when held to the light, tan head lots of bubbles on side of glass. Head leaves quickly leaving behind a clean glass. Roast nut aroma maybe a hint of liquorice, and chocolate. More light bodied then expected, smooth watery feel, a bit astringent, but malts are prevailent as well as some bitter chocolate. Semi-dry finish. Would be refreshing to have this on a hot day and switch to a porter at night. Quack-Duck (3243), Bodensee/Schwarzwald, Germany
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 27, 2007 Bought this one in England. Deeply dark beer, large and consistent head. Taste of roasted malts (4 different are used). Finishes with a taste reminiscent of coffee. Lovelly brew! ChrisThomson (398), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | May 6, 2007 Prague-07. Pours deep black with faint beige head. Has roasty-licorice aroma, taste of roasty malts with a bit of sweetness and cocoa notes. Body is relatively light for a dark beer to make it quite easy-drinking. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 15, 2007 Bottle at Wetherspoons, Sheperds Bush, 14-04-07. Pours very dark in colour, some wood, malt, and bitter cocoa in aroma. Tasted very pleasant with nice maltiness, and quite bitter at times, this was interesting to compare this with their other bottled beer that I tried this evening.
