Appealing burnt coffee nose, flavors of coffee and nuts that fade into a lasting roast malt in the back. Tastes just as good out of the bottle, too. TerryR (383), Oswego, Illinois, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jun 17, 2005 Poured black with a small yet creamy tan head. Very good lacing. Strong aroma for a lighter beer with bitter coffee, espresso, and a fruit similar to raisin which I don’t recall the name of. There was some caramel as well. The taste was roasted but not overdone. The chocolate taste became more pleasant as the beer went down. The palate had a really nice dark chocolate and espresso combination. The aftertaste was pretty long which made me happy. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 6, 2005 Typical Czech dark lager aroma (to me) Burnt dark rye bread, some astringency. Some spicy hops. Medium sweet with more of that burnt malt character I just can’t get around in a czech dark. This is better than most (less astringency) but I still haven’t quite figured out what it is about czech darks, but I’m yet to meet one I like.
