| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 16/20 | May 6, 2005 Malty and nutty on the nose, the color of pitch in the glass. An extraordinarily dry beer, but complex, with roasted malt notes and a full mouthfeel. It lingers a little on the palate, but doesn’t stay very long. A drinkable schwarzbier with some interesting currant underpinnings to the nose and taste. A winner. RAYBOY01 (1858), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 4, 2005 Excellent example of an unusual style...mainly roasted malt flavors of toffee, caramel, coffee, and burnt cocoa. Just a little thin in body (if I must find a fault!). Virtually no hop bitterness detected. I really enjoyed this one. HopsOrDie (687), New Lenox, Illinois, USA

Pours a Very dark ruby red fading to tar black with a thick mocha head and thick lacing. Odd aroma, slighlty doughy with a after note of kid’s school paste. Flavor is slightly doughy with some mild coffee notes and some nuittiness. Quite pleasant. Mouthfeel is thick enough for a lager. Impressed. heemer77 (4311), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Apr 11, 2005 Black body with a little bit of amber when held to the light. A huge tan head tops the beautiful body. The aroma is deep roasted malt with some bread crust and sweet caramel. There is also some hickory smoke. The flavor is lively with roasted peanuts and some slightly salty beef jerky. There are also some hints of toffee. This is smooth, oh so smooth and silky. Excellent example of the style. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 4, 2005 Decent light brown head. Bubbly and frothy on top. Light carbonation. Salty teriyaki meat aroma with some sweet malts. Color is a very dark brown with a hint of red. Flavor is thin and roasty. Little dry with lingering bitterness. Litttle salty in the flavor as well. Finish is dry and roasty again. Slightly chalky palate. A decent schwartzbier but nothing special.
