Black with little head, gravity pour. What good fortune to get a cask conditioned version of this in our neck of the woods. The immediatly still body, thank god no gushing CO2 pour, gives up a treacle licorice flavour with some bitumen tar, sounds horrible but is actually fantastic. Fruity without being overbearing, juicy with a pleasant late dry hop. Dark chocolate malt. Lovely Jubbly. steve23mj (273), Essexville, Michigan, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 6, 2005 Deepest mahogany, but light does pass through, decent head that faded slowly. Aroma caught me off guard, molasses tinged brewers wort. As I drank the beer, it slowly grew on me. The molasses became more welcoming, the taste of raw malt subsided, and the saaz ended up giving an almost fruity herbal quality in the very end. Once I got past my surprise and wrapped myself around this beer, I was quite pleased. Some could really love this beer. larsniclas (3391), Gothenburg, Sweden

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 2, 2004 Cola black body with light penetrating, but not all that easily. There’s a moderate khaki head that lingers for a bit then fades completely. The aroma is cake-like with a bit of chocolate and a bit of roast. The flavor is nice with more chocolate and more roast. There’s a little more body there than some schwarzbiers, but that’s a good thing. This is a really enjoyable lager. JPDIPSO (4939), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
