Fully golden, almost amber, with a small, creamy head. Very malty aroma. Fat, malty body with some rather unusual (for a lager) notes of overripe fruit and perhaps even Sherry - with a touch of nuts and a hint of smoke. Definitely not your typical pilsener profile! Rather distinct, dry bitter finish. Interesting. 111005 and 131108 Braudog (3766), Dayton, Ohio, USA

Biscuity at first, but flowers out with a nice floral saaz hop sting. Great. johndoughty (2159), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England

A dry pils malt taste, balanced by a slightly spicy hop character. Still suffers from having to travel all the way to the States, but a nice, smooth iteration of the style. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA

Clear brass-colored body with low carbonation and a fairly sudsy white head. Aroma of mild butterscotch, light toasted malt, and pineapple. Nice richness for a lager with good malt depth. Moderately hoppy, pleasantly sweet, lightly tart, and clean. Has notes of cooked apples and spice. Nice, balanced summer drinker.

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 6, 2005 A bit darker than expected as it was a medium to deep gold, whereas urquell and czechvar are a very pale gold. Pretty good head and some lace. Aroma is a moderatley hoppy- some faded saaz and some stale malts. This one is perhaps not as fresh as it could be. Almost has a slight skunky aroma and a bit of DMS. Flavor is more towards the malty side, but it is not like a good bready pure pils malt- more of a stale metallic malt. Mouthfeel is nice due to moderate carbonation and a nice body, but the slight age hurts this beer. Finishes dry and crisp though. I would consider this as more of a pale lager then a true czech pils. Floral hoppy nose with traces of malts and honey. Breadish malty taste with a nice bitter and hoppy finish. The aroma was actually more promising than the finish. theacelatrain (262), Washington DC, USA
