A bottle (no.3362) tasted at Mallaskukko Turku. Pale brown thin head. Bluecheese dark berries and vanilla in the nose. Dark brownish reddish colour. Slightly sweet syropy and hoppy taste with some licorice. Also some roastiness and espresso taste.

Brewed 2006, bottled 2007, rated Oct 2009. Pours a hazy, deep brownish ruby, with a small, short lived, off-white head. Sweet, yet slightly sourish, fruity malt aroma. Reminiscent of a spicy port of sherry. Dry, slightly vinegarry, cranberry-like sourness, meets a fruity, molassy sweetness (that would probably be the "cane sugar" mentioned on the back label). Plum, burned sugar, something vaguely nutty, both in aroma and flavor. Dry, sourish aftertaste. 11% abv astonishingly well hidden, though. Full bodied, very mild carbonation, slightly dry mouthfeel. Tasty, appreciatively complex, fairly smooth. Sourness does get rather tiring, however, although it mellows a bit towards the end of the bottle.

Bottle. Pours a dark slightly hazy brown color with a small off-white head. Has a sweetish malty dark fruit aroma with some spicy hints and some hints of caramel. Dry malty warming spicy dark fruit flavor with some hints of caramel. Has a malty spicy dark fruit finish.

Bottled (50cl, Mallaskukko, bottle #3267). Very dark ruby red color, small beige head. Alcohol, glue, molasses, dark malts and prunes in the nose. Full-bodied, quite smooth mouthfeel. Flavor has dark, a bit roasted malts, caramel malts, some salty licorice, prunes and also hints of iron and/orminerals. 50cl bottle is just too much for this kind of beer. Warming beer, but too simple alcohol knock-out for being really stylish barley wine.

50ml poured from a bottle at CBF 09. Dark-brown coloured body. Sweet malty aroma slightly roasted and with dark fruits behind. Rich taste of dried fruits including raisin, prunes and figs. Some dark berries, too. Bitter endnotes with moderately alcohol. Good stuff, a bit cloying, though (16.05.2009).

Bottle # 3253 @ Mallaskukko, Turku. Murky dark reddish brown, firm mocha head. Buttery aroma with loads of figgy, earhy licorice, little molassy sugars, dark fruits and earth, some methol also, pretty intensive. Flavor has the same old butter, figs, earth, dark fruits and cloying sugars. Alcohol in the finish, along with some hops. Not very refined, doesn’t feel that well aged. A really heavy brew.
