Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
For this sweet flavoured and dark brown beer,we use aromatic malt (for the dark colour). For abbey beer, Kapittel Pater has rather low abv (6%). The hop we use is Poperingse hop which has only a light bitter taste.

330 ml, best by May-07. Dark brown-red and slightly cloudy, with medium light brown head that sort of lasts. Aroma is molasses and honey with earthy undertones. Taste is much more bitter, and has similar cardboard flavor to some alts I have had - kind of mixed chalky, watery dry-ciderish malt with some hops. I know this is good to some, but its too much of a watered-down melange of good Belgian flavors for my tastes. Still, I can appreciate its a quality beer, just not my style.

Bottle. Amber brown beer with a nice dark cream colored head. Yeasty/malty aroma. Caramel malt flavor with yeast and spice that lingers. Somewhat lighter bodied. Easy to drink.

330ml bottle from BeersOfEurope. Very low carbonation. Fairly sweet and malty. Plastic alcohol aroma. Some English hop burn in the swallow. Fruit cake flavours. BBE is 8 months away, but there’s a faint cardboard flavour to this. Quite drinkable.

Pours with a lightly hazy, reddish amber color and is topped by a frothy, tightly bubbled, amber tinged tan colored head that starts out three-fingers in height. The aroma smells of dark fruit notes with a touch of oxidation character, which seems to accentuate a concentrated fruitiness. Notes of prunes, figs and raisins are prominent, but there is also a caramelized character and a rich, sweetish bread-like note. Clove-like fermentation notes are also in the aroma as is a general spicy Belgian yeast type note.

The beer is fairly sweet (when taken in the context of this beers alcohol content). Again a fruity malt character is most prominent in the flavor as well. Notes of fig and raisin join a rich, spice cake like character that does not overly accentuate the spice notes. Touches of ginger, join the typical clove-like notes and perhaps a hint of pepper. There is also an earthy spice character here that is a bit harder to describe. This has some light oxidation character to it, but it again seems to accentuate the fruit and malt character. All in all a pretty tasty tipple.

Bottle. Poured hazy copper color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with excellent lacing. Moderate bread malty and fruit aroma. Medium to full body with a slick texture. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration.

Pretty red-woody coloration. Dense and consistent cream, with brown tones. Aroma of malt with fruit suggestion of a light one. In the palate, and an excessively fruit beer perhaps candy of less, with cherry mainly. A good beer........................................... Boa cerveja.
