Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
For this sweet flavoured and dark brown beer,we use aromatic malt (for the dark colour). For abbey beer, Kapittel Pater has rather low abv (6%). The hop we use is Poperingse hop which has only a light bitter taste.

Mahogany in colour with a few islands of head remaining. Nose of yeast, roasted malts and barley. Alcohol is apparent in the nose but not in the taste. It’s Sweet with notes of caramel. Slightly watery but this seems to make it more drinkable. Thin bodied but I still like it...

Pours a mury brown with a one inch off-white head that fades slowly to a thick cap, and leaves behind a nice webbing of lace. Smell; bread dough and caramel malts, with hints of plums and earthy yeasts. Taste; a bit sweet with lots of caramel and bread dough flavors going on here. As this warms the Belgian spices and fruits make an appearance, along with a bit of a hoppy bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, and just a little on the dry side.

Aroma gives candy sugar lightly roasted malts, loads of fruit from the yeast peach coming through also. Taste is similar though not as complex, sweet finish.

Bottle from Pat’s. Turbid dark straw pour with sizable off-white head. Aroma of spicy floral malt, citrus, funky yeasty notes. Medium, vibrant palate with flavors of citrus, florals, spicy funky candi sugary malt. Notably complex. One I will definitely buy again.

Bottle: Pours a crimson mahogany color with that typical beautiful belgian head and lacing. Nice carbonation. The nose is a bit more caramelly than I expected with some toasted plum and light biscuity cherry. Plenty of yeast too. The flavor is a bit sweet and herbal with some rhubarb and berry notes. A bit sweet and yeasty, needs some bite to balance.
