A par-on abbey style ale that would be welcome to a fresh palate for those of whom would like to start the Belgians. I would like to see a little more spice/fruit notes, but this is decent. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 3, 2006 Poured a murky brown in color with a half-inch beige head. Sweet, fruity aroma. Flavor is slightly earthy malt with hints of candied sugar, fruity malts and a mild bitter hop finish. Not a remarkable abbey ale, but decent enough. muenster (340), Sevierville, Tennessee, USA

Aroma is musty fruit, with some earthiness, and malts. The flavor is sweet, with some fruit, some wood, overall musty. blankboy (3207), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Pours a cloudy dark amber with lots of floaties and a spare diminishing off-white head. Aroma of malt, fruit and yeast with a little wood thrown in. Flavour starts off with quite a bit of metal and follows with watery sweet malt and yeast -- average tasting at best. Average bodied. Not very good. tupalev (2617), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Dark amber, slick bubbly head. Some malt, burnt notes in mild aroma. Not bad taste: burnt sugar, malt. Very watery. Enjoyable, but average at best from this older bottle. DJC (238), USA

Somewhat yeasty, sweet aroma. Malty, sweet, dried fruit (apple?) flavor, with minimal carbonation. Too sweet for me, in fact, so I’d probably pass if offered again. Hazy orange-brown, no head. Aroma is malty, woody, a bit stale. Thin body. Flavour is sweet, malty, slightly roasty, but also stale - definitely an old bottle that’s past it’s prime. Not awful, but even fresh, I can’t imagine it was anything special. HogTownHarry (4006), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 2, 2006 Bottle (330ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and tupalev, bottle courtesy of jerc. Mostly clear amber, tiny frothy head. Sweet aroma of brown sugar malt, fresh apples and yeast, a little metallic and strangely woody on warming. Initially metallic taste, resolves to follow that aroma - very malty and yeasty, very sweet. Syrupy body, average carbonation, a hint of metal in the aftertaste - okay.
