Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
For this sweet flavoured and dark brown beer,we use aromatic malt (for the dark colour). For abbey beer, Kapittel Pater has rather low abv (6%). The hop we use is Poperingse hop which has only a light bitter taste.

Bottle. Slightly hazy, reddish-brown beer with a nice, beige, almost tan, but diminishing head. Aroma has lots of sweetness in it, with raspberry, some citricness, candisugar and a hint of roastiness. Sweet, light hoppy flavor with malt and some roasted notes. Caramel and raisins too. The body is nice and has a soft, lightly sticky mouthfeel. Sweet and hoppy finish that unfortunately has a metallic twist. A really pleasant treat after too many pale lagers. (060313)

Bottle. Pours reddish mahogany with decent-sized beige head, which leaves sticky lacing. The aroma is mild flowery hops, some sweet malt, and a touch of tart yeast. The flavor is kind of grassy. Spicy hops are in front, then it fizzes into a sugary sweetness, then back to a very dry finish with a sort of apple taste. There is a general yeastiness all the way through. It gets drier as the glass gets emptier. Nothing special, but drinkable.

Bottle. Brown body, good sized off white head. (3+) Sweet musty malt aroma smells a bit like a grain bag. Muted fruit wisps. Sweet fruity malty flavour, I can not quite identify specific fruit characteristics, but it is pleasant and lingers on the tongue. Medium palate is on the light side but very smooth. Alcohol is non-existant. A bit different, I expect it would go very well with dinner. A nice stew for instance. Quaffable.

Bottle courtesy of Aspidities. Best by 05/05 date. Pours a dark ruby color with a big frothy light tan head that settles into about a finger’s worth of foam. Big yeasty aromas before I even raise the glass to my nose. Aroma is yeasty with some candy notes. It seems sweet and thin at the same time, almost a balance. Sweet raisin like flavor with some roastiness and a slight tobacco note. Bitter, slightly metallic after taste

Reddish Brown, thin beige head. Fruity, sweetish aroma, with notes of fig and pepper. Smooth and smokey, with notes of toast and pine an pepper. Perhaps a bit too subtle? Palate is kind of cola-ish, too. There is a subtle but persistant grape flavor to the finish. Bottle, Union Jack’s, Knoxville.

Murky, opaque copper in the glass; streaky lace left by the putty-colored froth. Unusual aroma... primarily dust... also dates and figs, and more subtley, marshmallow and walnut. Mild sugar/molasses flavor dosed with chalk and slatey minerals. Berry, metal shavings, and spice are evident to a lesser degree. Odd aluminum foil finish dries out the tongue. Light palate, pinpoint carbonation. Chalky antacid and slightly bittersweet aftertaste. Overall, strange with the calcium and metal flavor elements, and not very assertive or interesting.

A nice brown pour, pretty smooth, abit of dark fruits, sugars, not overpowering at all, but very nice drinking beer, very mellow, I liked it.
