Aroma of dark fruit, sugar, cardboard, and yeasty. Flavor has light fruit, sweet, and doughy. Clean light finish. Light body. lamas (730), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 31, 2004 11.2 oz bottle. Pours a hazy red with super-thick fluffy tan head. Aroma is of sour fruit and yeast. Taste is surprisingly bland. Begins sweet but then finishes flat, sugary and malty. Very thin. Almost watery. CaptainCougar (5530), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 29, 2004 Pours a clear copper brown with a frothy and well-lacing light tan head. Aroma is a dry malty mix of Belgian yeast, candi sugar, and licorice that for some reason just didn’t work very well. The body starts sugary sweet with some mild bready yeast showing up toward a watery finish. It has a dry sugary flavor, but not a dry body. A very mediocre Belgian brew. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Dec 23, 2004 Amber-brown body with a dense fine particulate haze and medium off-white head with thick lace. Funky aroma is strongly vegetal, nutty, phenolic, and plasticky, with more than a hint of mustard seed. Malty flavor is also plasticky with medicinal phenols and oxidative notes. Substantial bitterness. This borders on the nasty. The worst of the Kapittel bunch. Gromit (462), Port Orchard, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 6, 2004 Purchased in a four-pack sampler that came with three others from this brewery.
Pours a brown color with a nice thick off-white head that left a very nice lace.
Aroma is mainly of dark fruits and spices. Nicely done.
Palate is very sweet, but there’s a really strong metalic finish to it. So yeah, sweet metal with some mild spices.
Palate is thin and kinda foamy. Eh... Overall, I won’t be reaching for another one. It’s rather disappointing.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Nov 24, 2004 Poured brownish amber with a frothy head. Malty aroma. Seems very sweet in the initial sip. Sweetness kind of lingers and along comes a mild metal finish. I’ve come to expect metal in Kapittel. Decent. lachesis (759), St Idesbald, Belgium
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 23, 2004 Nice brown beer with a clear reddish shine and a good beige airy froth. Soft malty nose with touche of cane sugar, dry biscuits, caramel and nuts. Good fizzyness on the pallet with a medium to round mouthfeeling. In the taste there are fine hints of malts, some caramel, a little touch of sweet bread and some bee-wax, it ends with a faint bitter touch that is well integrated in this beer. Not a very complex beer, but a good one with a great mellow aftertaste Joeh (1908), Buckinghamshire, England
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 14, 2004 330ml bottle brought back from Belgium in a Duvel glass. Deep, bright brown. A wonderful aroma of malt, caramel and dried fruit. Flavour is along the same lines, sweet and malty with lots of caramel fruit, mild bitter finish. Last bit (with the sediment in) has a slightly yeasty character to it. Slight stale edge loses this a couple of points. Probably the best thing I’ve had from this brewery yet, reminds me of Gordon’s Scotch.
