Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
For this sweet flavoured and dark brown beer,we use aromatic malt (for the dark colour). For abbey beer, Kapittel Pater has rather low abv (6%). The hop we use is Poperingse hop which has only a light bitter taste.

A huge tight head sits atop a very hazy amber colored beer. Aroma i s lightly fruity with some yeast and some alcohol. The flavor is good enough, but after a whole bottle it seems to ware out it’s welcome. There are good fruit notes of sweet cherry and apple, there is a good mildly nutty malt sweetness that domintes the flavor. This is certinally sweeter than it is dry but it is balanced to a good degree. This has as much flavor as many dubbels out there with a much more sensible abv, so it’s got that going for it.

Crushed with Jakebra. Fruity but metallic nose. Flavor is about the same. Strange, cloying, metallic flavor. Somehow it’s still kinda aight.

Bottle. Pours a deep dark brown, medium beige head. Nose is sweet malt, slight plum. Taste is sweet malt, a bit of dryness and a thin mouthfeel with a quick dry bitter finish.

Bottle. Copper brown with a steady tan head. Strange roasted malts aroma. Sweet honey, blends with roasted malts and even apples, overall quite sweet. I have tasted better from Van Eecke.

Bottle, pours dark red/brown with a tan head. Smells like roasted malt and coffee with some hoppiness. Flavors are light and sweet with a suprising hop bitterness. A cloying honey afteertaste in the finish. Refreshing, crisp, and yummy.

[bottle - 330 ml] Copper in color with a puffy beige head. Aroma is very light with some hints of malt, yeast, and some caramel. Flavor is a bit sour at the beginning with some yeast, apples, caramel, and some sour notes at the end. Watery and tart.

Pours murky brownish with one finger of biege head. Aroma of dark fruit and yeast. Mouthfeel smooth, fairly soft and medium-full. Feels of fine light-bubble carbonation. A touch dry. Flavor starts out a bit disappointing, some sourish-tart dark fruit tanginess and yeast, perhaps a bit of red wine. Then as it warms – oh yeah, much better. Chocolate, dark fruit, a bit of red wine. Pretty tasty. 330 ml bottle, best before 12/09, part of a Kapittel gift pack, from Bootleggers.
