Aroma i s lightly fruity with some yeast and some alcohol. The flavor is good enough, but after a whole bottle it seems to ware out it’s welcome. There are good fruit notes of sweet cherry and apple, there is a good mildly nutty malt sweetness that domintes the flavor. This is certinally sweeter than it is dry but it is balanced to a good degree. This has as much flavor as many dubbels out there with a much more sensible abv, so it’s got that going for it. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 8, 2008 Pours murky brownish with one finger of biege head. Aroma of dark fruit and yeast. Mouthfeel smooth, fairly soft and medium-full. Feels of fine light-bubble carbonation. A touch dry. Flavor starts out a bit disappointing, some sourish-tart dark fruit tanginess and yeast, perhaps a bit of red wine. Then as it warms – oh yeah, much better. Chocolate, dark fruit, a bit of red wine. Pretty tasty. 330 ml bottle, best before 12/09, part of a Kapittel gift pack, from Bootleggers.
