Sweet dough, cookie nose also a nice rum aroma and vanilla tone which repeats in the taste. Celery and molasses are also in the taste followed by a harsh and unlikely bitterness. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Apr 26, 2005 Starts great: light caramel nose with molasses tones, walnut-brown color, sticky foamy head. Odde sweet malt taste, however, with a vegetable character. Gritty bitter end. Taste doesn’t match the nose and this went downhill quick in my book. Dissappointing. urbnhautebourg (974), Annapolis, Maryland, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 26, 2005 Nice orchard fruit nose. It has some berry flavors tightened up by a winey dryness. All this overlays some considerable caramel. Reminds me a lot of St. Bernardus Prior 8, but a bit more caramel and dryness. Drink at room temperature. Excellent. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 18, 2005 Bottle: Aroma is malt, fruit, chocolate, caramel, and citrus. Pours a dark brown. Some orange hilights are noticeable when held to the light. Big off-white head with excellent retention. Very malty. Lots of caramel, fruit, light chocolate, raisin. Finish is lightly acidic. A little warming affect, but no real alcohol flavor. CaptainCougar (5532), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 12, 2005 Dark copper brown with a lightly-lacing, light tan head. Rich malty caramel and bready Belgian yeast aroma. Body is sweet and viscous but thins a little toward the finish. Nicely carbonated with mild complexity and balance. A decent Belgian strong.
