Clear head. Brown, very opaque with lots of yeast floating around, and bubble columns... a hell of a show.
Smeel: alcohol sweetness with some grains, with light hints of liquorice, toffee, burnt sugar.
Bitter-sweet.
Fizzy, pungent sweetness which dies away quick. Hints of cherries, graininess, with a bitter-dry finish. mike1977ok (648), Netherlands

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 9, 2008 Bottle. Aromas of sweet dark fruits and lightly roasted caramel. A mahogany color with a frothy tan head. Medium in body with frothy/creamy carbonation. The malt is more toffee than caramel, maybe with a touch of coffee or chocolate. The fruits are dark - cherry, prune, raisin type. Could be a touch of molasses. The finish is fairly dry with mild spiciness and dark malt. The finish is lightly sour, not too much bitter. It’s a whole lot tastier than I could describe. altonbrownd (1955), Amsterdam, Netherlands
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 12, 2008 Bottle from Cracked Kettle. Dark reddish brown. Fuzzy head. Sweet, fruity nose. Warm, sweet, caramel flavour. A wide variety of different flavours really, including toffee, nuts and dark fruits, definitely cherry and plums. Then a tad of sourness in the finish. Nice. A warming, spicy, trappist style beer, even if the religious connections may be a bit dubious. A late night beer for sipping with a book.
Good, but not at the very top. SSSteve (2090), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
