Cask RA. A really black colour. No head. Taste of salt licorice and licorice. A proper amount of hops. Some hints of smoke and tar in the taste.

Cask (gravity dispense), St Albans Beer Festival, September 2007. Nice dark colour, not much head. Smooth creamy chocolate in the aroma. More roasty notes, with a little bitterness on the palate. Quite tasty.

Cask at The Guide Dog, Southampton- Black in colour with a tan head. The aroma is of coffee and mildly smoky. The taste is quite thin at first but becoming more pronounced after a couple of sips with coffee and chocolate detected. Quite a nice pint.

Cask in quinns. Aroma is chocolate malts hints at citrus and grasys hop. Taste is thin chocolate malts with a bit of a nothing finish, but a decent quencher after belgiun ales.

Cask conditioned at The Nags Head. Black with brown head. Enjoyed whilst watching the Rugby World Cup Final. There is loads going on in this beer, just like the scrums on the telly. Smokey, burnt and a hint of sourness, full and challenging. I liked it.

A Sim rate (cask at St Albans BF): Very bitter flavour. Smoky (Mes says ’peaty’) with a dark chocolate hit. Aroma is very alcoholic and slightly sweet with plum and other berry-type fruits. Roasty, hammy. The flavour is full, but just not my sort of thing.

Cask (St. Urho’s, Helsinki, Porter and Stout days 2007). Smells like a strong bitter, tastes of the heavy oils of roasted grains. Plenty of hops too.
