Bottle from Tanakaya shop in Tokyo. Copper-colored dunkelweizen that’s light on spice and tastes a lot like their White Weizen but for the gobs of sweet malt - very much like caramel malt. No hops to be found, really. A sweet, very wheaty malt bomb. Nicely done, guys!!!! One of my favorite dunkelweizens, as they’re usually higher in alcohol than I like, but this is only 4.5%.

May 26, 2008 Bottled. Cloudy amber, small head. Papery caramelly nose.Sweet and medium bodied with rounded mouthfeel. No esters, no bitterness, not much really.

May 14, 2008 Bottled, thanks to the ever generous omh crew. Pours out in a cloudy amber colour with a small white foam. Strong malty aroma of biscuits, wheat, caramel and vanilla. Medium to light-bodied with creamy flavours of caramel, cream and vanilla. Mild finish of milky chocolate, wheat and fudge.

Aug 12, 2003 Also called "Darken Boar Wheat Special" on the label in English. Deep cloudy orange, but not very active. Some ripe fruit wheat style aroma and something almost medicine like, not quite clove, closer to menthol mixed with clove honey. That "whatever it is" comes out as a tartnes that leans toward lambic. Loads of sediment eventually smooth out a bit of the tartnes. I have encountered a similar tartness in Hitachino wheat over here, thought it was too young, but maybe thery are going bad on the shelves. Otherwise, calling it a German wheat is not quite right, perhaps its an emerging style from these Nippon brewers. In either case, I will have to say it doesN't work for me.
