Draught pilsener/chalice-like stemmed glass at the brewery on 5/12/06. Deep, heavily darkened copper with strong magenta highlights in the body, warning of stronger malts and longer boils?? The head is moderately retained with some strong wispy lace on the sides. Clarity is medium-high. Heavily, heavily phenolic nose shows tons of clove, but it drips with heavy, sticky, rich orange blossom honey. Spicy sourdough and just more esters and phenols than the palate can take. Ends with some vanilla (dry) and alcohol. The flavor is quite underatennuated, granted the strong phenols (clove, rye, black pepper) and warm esters (peaches soaked in grand marnier) do attempt to balance. But sweet caramel swarms and the only some leafy hops peak through, adding dryness but little else to this already overloaded Belgian Strong Golden.

this was another good beer from hideout; nice orangish bronze body with small head...aroma was of sugars, caramels, and alcohol....some wit characteristics such as lemon notes....taste was also a plus, with nice citrus notes, spices, caramels, alcohol, and sugar....nice palate

Rating #1300.
Deep orange body, thin off-white head. Caramely aroma with notes of bubblegum (though I rarely detect this when it is mentioned in a beer’s description, it was one of the first things I picked up in this beer), candy corn, honey, and warming alcohol. Sweet, vinous body with light fruits (peaches), toast, caramel, and heavy sugars. Sweetened apple juice with hints of pear syrup emphasize the intensely sweet, fruity body. Alcohol was warming but not offensive by any means. The aroma was more interesting than the body, but I still enjoyed my glass.
