Commercial Description:
Well, sure, the Cold War might be over, but you can?t be certain, can you? You’ve got brewers putting all sorts of crazy things into your beer; do you ever really know where they came from, or why they’re even there in the first place? You need a brew you can trust, and that?s why we make Purity of Essence. It’s an overstuffed blend of the best malts, fresh Noble hops, yeast, and water, brewed according to the German Reinheitsgebot the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. But you won’t find anything like this in the Old Country. Munich malt adds just a bit of color and malty firmness to balance the intense hoppy flavors and aromas that make this brew distinctly American. Vigilance!

(Draught) Pours a lightly cloudy golden body with a small white head. Aroma of nuts, caramel, grass, herbs, and earthiness. Flavor of mild hops (floral, herbal, citrus) and toasted malt.

Bottle… Pours mostly clear and yellow with a large, frothy, white head. Good retention. Biscuity, peppery aroma proffers light roastiness as well. Full-bodied with lively carbonation. Crisp, (a bit) metallically bitter, refreshing flavor and finish.

My Bottom Line:
This beautifully drinkable Kellerbier (with American flair) is the scene for the refreshing equilibrium of lightly caramelized, toasted malts and herbal, almost zesty hops. This is the kind of beer I would like to have in the fridge all the time, but which is sadly quite rare in these parts.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A rocky head of foam decorates the hazy, bright amber, lacing admirably.
-The body is lean and the flavor profile balanced until the hop finishing bitterness, whose leafy zing has a lot of endurance.
-Herbal (noble) hops are more present in the nose than the malts.
-Orange zest highlights appear towards the end.
-Carbonation is frothy and made of big but soft bubbles.

Bottle.

22 oz bomber. God... these names are beyond obnoxious. Deep amber/hazy beer with a thin white head. Aroma is quite hoppy. A touch of berryish fruitiness and a noble hop spiciness. There is a definite malty sweetness on the back as well. There is something I really like about this, but there is something else that I’m not sure I do. It has a crusty bready aroma but it also has that fairly raw grainy rusticity. The malts are quite fresh and crusty with a bready yeasty freshness. Some soft fruity hops, berries yeast and a nice grainy/malty flavour. I’m not convinced they knew what they were doing when they made this, but I like it nonetheless.

Bottle from Kingdom Liquors. Poured a clear amber color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate sour citrus, yeast and alcohol aroma. Medium bitter flavor with a medium acidic finish of moderate duration. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Worth having once.

Pours hazy deep copper with big 3-finger off-white head. Nose is female gymnast feet, hops, assy funk, caramel malt, florals, spicy peppery. Tastes feety hoppy, funky, with earthy mushroomy notes, spicy florals, fruit, and malt. Palate is rich and the complexity is great. This is a great beer, although it comes across as a Simcoey IPA much more than a malt liquor. I’ll definitely be picking more of this up.

Bottle (22oz). Shared by blankboy with me, garthicus, GregClow and tupalev. Hazy amber, average off-white head. Funky-bitter, acidic aroma, underlying sweetness - pretty decent, actually. The taste is also very acidic, a hint of cherry ... and celery. Pretty average mouthfeel, lively, bitter in the finish, maybe a hint of lemon zest. Pretty solid stuff!

Bottle thanks for another tic vic. Pours an orange body with a white head. Grainy dry lagered notes with a spruce character. Bitter dry hop character. Dry with a hint of fruit in the finish. Eh.
