Commercial Description:
Highland's most robust beer, having a very malty body with a large, roasted chocolate flavor. It is black in color with a very clean finish and a moderate hop flavor.

12oz Bottle Pours almost black topped with a nice tan head. A nice aroma of ligth roast coffee with a touch of chocolate. Tast of light coffee some nice bitter dark chocolate. This was a pretty good brew.

Tap at the brewery. Similar to their oatmeal porter, but there is definitely a coffee note to this one. Chocolaty flavor and coffee overtones. Not much on the hops, but what can you expect from a Stout.

1-30-08 bottle.
Black with creamy tan head and good lacing. Smells of warm mocha or like the inside of a Starbucks. More chocolate than coffee by far. Taste is decent but just not very special or too much above average. Palate is so watery and thin and uneventful. I want more depth and richness and creaminess. Even has a watery aftertaste.

Dark brown in color that allows almost no light to penetrate. 1 finger width of tan head with light retention and moderate lacing. Aroma is sweet milk chocolate, roasted coffee and roasted grain bitterness. The flavor starts off with a fairly assertive grain bitterness that picks up the roasted coffee flavor over time. Bittersweet baking chocolate midway through that leads to a dry, powdery bitter finish. The body has a nice, smooth, feel with just a light touch of chewiness to it. Moderate carbonation. Another quality Highland brew that delivers good flavor in a < 6.0%abv package.

pours basically black with slight ruby edges and a big tan head. Smell is rich, creamy roasted coffee beans and very fresh and balanced. Taste is a touch metallic at 1st and noticeably thin bodied. Roasted malt and a medium to strong coffee flavor, but the flavor and body are just too thin, and kill this otherwise nice beer. Smells good, but the rest is average at best.

Pours a beautiful black color with decent tan head that dissipated rather quickly and did not leave much in the way of lacing. Aroma was roasted maltiness and chocolate. Flavor was also malty with chocolate and coffee notes. Mouthfeel was good. This was a nice stout.

Draft, Nick and Nates Sylva. Poured a Light tan head and it actually lasted for some time. Decent lacing and a roast/smokey aroma. Flavor tasted like roast, chocolate and something else, can’t figure it out. Decent stout, not bad Thanks Higland

Bottle via homebrew swap - thanks! Black, sizable tan head. Nose is cocoa, tar, smoked malt, coffee & cherries. Flavor is cocoa, bitter malt, milk, cherries, wood & smoke.
