| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 25, 2009 Nicely done. Pours with a nice dark ecru head, aroma of chocolate and other dark malts. Not too roasty - limited acidity. A little milky. Body develops a watery hole at one point during the finish, but nothing too objectionable. Easy drinking. blankboy (3258), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 23, 2009 Bottle (12oz) courtesy of MrFacto. Pours dark brown, almost black, with a small diminishing tan head. Nice aroma, creamy and roasty along with coffee and light green hops. Flavour starts with coffee followed by roasted malt, dark chocolate and light green hops -- well done and quite flavourful. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Great stuff, I really enjoyed it. otakuden (518), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 23, 2009 Gliding into my glass with sublime delicacy, her thick oily body is topped off by a tan head, soft and thick with scattered bubbles. As her head recedes, leaving delicate tan lace to mark her path, a billowing aroma of fresh chocolate, vanilla beans, coffee, and meaty rye bread seduce my senses. She is certainly starting out wonderfully both in looks and aroma, but the real story will be told in her body and palate. Not one to keep a potentially good stout waiting, I take my first couple quaffs and am greeted by a surprisingly soft mouthfeel which immediately coats and clings in chocolate bliss. Chocolate in the start, middle, and finish; a fitting tribute to her name. Creamy with only miniscule bitterness in the form of darker chocolates and espresso, each quaff leaves a menagerie of lace. Dark roasted malts creep in as my diminishing stout warms, leaving a pleasant dryness in my mouth which only serves to bring me back for more. Do I detect a faint tease of lemon? Unfortunately, my glass empties far too quickly, supporting my inexplicable love for a good stout.
Well done, I must say. So far, I have had many good beers from Highland Brewing and only one that I can recall was lackluster. Their beers aren’t exactly ground-breaking, but instead Highland Brewing produces solidly enjoyable and thoroughly quaffable brews. I would buy a six-pack of this without a second thought, adding my own ode to stouts. Beershine (2754), Traipsing Around, Cambodia
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 21, 2009 Sample at Jupiter fest. Opaque brown-black with tight tan head. Subdued, sophisticated aroma. The mocha sits in a nice pocket and is very natural. Creamy and quaffable mouthfeel. Coffee emerges in the end of the flavors the most. Smooth and really nice. zebracakes (1217), Washington DC, USA
