Murky dark orangeish-copper colored pour with a light slightly off-white head. Fresh lake water aroma, some faint overripe fruitiness - expected more. Some Christmas spices show up initially with a hint of licorice. Some candy-like notes make their presence known as well - some vanilla, and root beer. Mouthfeel is thick enough but not a highlight. Would make a decent winter warmer. Interesting to say the least. bgburdman9 (823), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 4, 2007 Bonus from captaincougar. Aroma and sweet maltiness with some spices. Flavor was a little weird with some butterscoth maybe. A little werid on the palate. Had some vanilla. Jmichael (633), Asheville, North Carolina, USA

This year it was overwhelming in the vanilla category, very sweet, poured an amber color with medium head... this is a regional cult favorite, one of the hardest seasonal beers to find in Asheville, a very popular cult beer, I like the mystique more, but hey, isn’t that half of the attraction.... Smells of spices, caramel, sugar and sweet malt. Taste is of caramel, citrus, spices and some earthy hints. Mouthfeel is thin. Finish is of citrus. tupalev (2617), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Dark ruby red, big dough like off white head. Lots of sweet bready notes in aroma - caramel cake like. Taste - lots of vanilla, spice, candy. Interesting. Like Anchor’s Special Ale a bit. Didn’t quite work for me, but big kudos on an interesting beer. pintocb (510), Darsville, Georgia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 31, 2007 Brick store on tap. Brown with a creamy head. Looks thicker than it tastes. Some elements of a nice brown ale, caramel and toffee flavors, but a different finish. A spicey finish. sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Appears dark ruby with no or little foam. Aroma reminds me of vanilla soda, hops and malts. Flavor was sugary, like root beer. Very smooth, another great beer from NC brewery.
