Dec 6, 2008 Updated: Dec 18, 20082008 vintage. A dark, clear, garnet colored body is crowned by a small, frothy, well retained layer of tan colored foam. Sticky bands and arches of lacing cling to the glass. The aroma shows notes of dark caramel, light brown sugar, plums, and a hint of candied pecans. Nutmeg and clove come through a bit as well. Flavors show nice balance, hints of lactic creaminess bringing together the contrasting elements of caramelized fruits and earthy spices. Sugar glazed walnuts and pecans again shine through. Medium bodied, with a smooth and creamy consistency, this drinks incredibly easy. A lightly floral hop finish tops things off. This is just a tasty, sessionable winter ale. Very nice.

Dec 5, 2008 Bottle, pours clear but deep reddish brown with off-white head... smallish. Malty, malty, malty... lovely caramel, toffee, and vanilla, and the spices are quite present but they work for me... I think cinnamon, clove, nutmeg... but still adds up to something sweeter, more warming... maybe some chocolate notes? Not sure what it is exactly, but this is one of the only very spicy holiday ales that I really enjoy.

Dec 3, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours a deep, dark blood red. Thin, light tan head. Sweet aroma with hints of cinnamon. Nice malty body with hints of vanilla, brown sugar. Finish is a bit spicy. Nice treat on a cold evening.

Dec 2, 2008 Sampled on draft at city beverage in winston-salemn. Nice translucent auburn pour with good tan head. Lightly malty aroma with a little hop spiciness. Surprisingly hoppy but well balanced by the malty tones and hints of anise. Medium chewy body with moderate carbonation and some carbonic bite. Decent winter brew.

Nov 29, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours to dark body with caramel colored head. Aroma is of malt and spices. Taste is a nice ...chocolate and spices. Slighty thin mouthfeel but overall the palate is smooth. Will have again, this is an excellent choice.

Nov 1, 2008 Bottle. This was a shocker. I loved this dark mahogany beer. Loads of winter spices of cinnamon, clove, pepper, and some of that winter warmer caramel and chocolate notes. Solid beer, i’ve had it twice both were noteworthy. A gingerbread man in a glass. Solid.

Sep 26, 2008 Probably my favorite seasonal I’ve ever drank. Reddish inviting color with a nice tan top. Tastes of cinnamon and spices. Extremely smooth going down. Can’t wait until winter to drink it in context. Great beer.
