Taste is a bit smokey with some caramel sweetness coming out and it was slightly sweeter than expected. Hops are there but subdued. Very drinkable beer that could easily become a session. Will buy again. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 15, 2007 Pours a nice deep red with half an inch of cream colored foam. This doesn’t last long or provide much lacing. Mild caramel malt in the aroma.
Toasted and caramel malt flabvors - though both are quite mild. A touch of hops in the finish. Smooth mouthfeel, nice carbonation, quite drinkable. Very nice session beer, but doesn’t really hold up well with food. BiochemProf (53), Boone, North Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 11, 2007 Clear amber pour topped with a 1-finger creamy off white head. Nice malty nutty aroma. Toasted, nutty slightly sweet taste with a nice bitter afterbite. Very fine brew. paydirt (9), North Carolina, USA does not count | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 8, 2007 Just a great amber ale from a very good up and coming brewery. Very consistent in quality and a nice caramel flavor in the palate. Great head, mouthfeel, and hop balance make this a top amber ale imho. calvinist (32), Asheville, North Carolina, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 1, 2007 I am new to the scene but it was just a weird taste to me. Granted I don’t know the difference in malt & hops flavours yet. This beer just didn’t do it for me. a little too bitter and a different taste than what I expected. chriso (4852), London, Greater London, England
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 29, 2006 Bottle, at Kookfest, September 2006 (and previously at the brewery but my notes were insufficient). I was going to say this wasn’t very Scottish in character but see that its on the site as an Amber Ale, which is probably nearer the mark. Copper colour. Lots of caramel malt character in evidence but also a quite strong, resiny hop presence. I didn’t feel the two elements married perfectly. Not bad, but nothing special.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 22, 2006 This is the ultimate session beer for those of us too proud and smart to ingest mass quantities of swill. A nice hop character and sweet malt backbone make this a winner.
