But then again, it is still a Highland and one of the better domestic ales you’ll ever find. Ayumbomb (63), Asheville, North Carolina, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 16, 2005 (12 oz bottles: Obtained in trades with suttree and goldtwins, thanks Phil and Larry!) The first bottle was sour and infected, so I’m glad I got this beer in two different trades. This bottle is healthy, so it’s all systems go. Mmm, this is a very malty amber, just the way I like ’em. Rich sweet caramel, toast, moderate roast, and very earthy from start to finish. Not much in the way of hops flavor, but there is a moderate bitterness to offer a small counterpoint to the solid maltiness. Earthy and caramely nose underscores these characteristics in the flavor. Medium-full bodied, round and coating on the palate, with a long, almost sticky finish. Deep amber colored body is topped by a small, but fairly persistent head that slowly settles to a wide ring. No lacing. Great beer, very flavorful and enjoyable, probably the best of the Highland beers I’ve tried so far. Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 11, 2005 A dark amber to brown appearance with a light head. The aroma consists of grapes, caramel, and cherries. The flavor is rather tame with some bready notes present. Sour apples and grapes are mainly what I taste. Not much of a hop bite to it at all. The palate is somewhat thin but thats to be expected of this style I guess. Overall this was pretty average, Highland makes much better. TheBeerCollector (548), Woodstock, Georgia, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 10, 2005 Not much going on here. Pours a nice rich golden amber with a lasting head but the aroma and flavor seem to be very subdued. Quite watery with a metallic mouthfeel. hopdog (5614), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

Poured a dark amber color with a large sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, toffee, and oranges. Tastes of the same. A little on the earthy side as well. Thinner body.
