Commercial Description:
A deep amber colored American ale, featuring a rich malty body. Cascade and Willamette hops add a complex hop flavor and aroma. This ale is exceptionally balanced between malty sweetness and delicate hop bitterness.

Pours copper with gold edges and weak tan head. The aroma has sweet malts and earthiness to go along with citrus and dark fruity esters. The taste has a pleasing balance of malty goodness, citrus hops, spicy hops, earthiness and dark fruity esters. A thin layer of molasses surfaces into the finish. The flavor isn’t seamless but tasty leaving lingering hop bitterness into the after taste.

From bottle: rich bread and molasses aroma, tastes like a hopped-up scottish ale or almost a lean English barleywine.

(Sample Date: 6/6/2009 Source:Other) RB Richmond Gathering. 12 oz bottle from local Kroger. Caramel maltyness in aroma. Clear dark amber golden with small white head. Caramel and toasty malt flavor with classic tea like hops. Finish is medium, clean, with light residual bitterness.

Bottle from Whole Foods in Greenville, NC. Light malts, with some sweetness. Light hops with not much bitterness at all. Very quick finish with no aftertaste. Simple beer.

A red copper color with a fading tan head. Just a tiny amount of carbonation rising to the top. A floral lemon and grassy aroma that closes out with a butterscotch malt. The aroma of this is flip flopped. Usually its malty then hoppy - this is opposite. The taste of this ale mirrors the aroma style. A spring hops flavor combined with tart lemon jump out in front of a well bodied malt. The palate is easy drinking and bubbly. I can just taste the freshness, reminding me of a Sierra Nevada. An interesting taste and a feather in the cap of this North Carolina brewer.

Pours golden reddish amber with minimal head. I get lots of malt on the nose as well as subtle hops along with slight candied fruit smells. Medium bodied. Malt upfront on your palate along with bread and a hint ever so slight of hops in there as well. Not much lacing on the glass either.

This is one of the first craft beers I tried, and is still a favorite. Goes great with pizza and burgers. Has a nice amount of hops, without getting into IPA territory.

Ideal copper/amber color, clear and inviting. Hmm, little oxidized malt here, probably an old bottle. Meh, it falls flat and a bit broken. Only caramel malt. If I ever get another bottle I’ll rerate it.
