Commercial Description:
Released Sept 21, 2008 (the day after brewgrass). The next brew in our renowned imperial line, this hearty stout is rich with coffee and chocolate notes, all achieved solely through the use of special roasted barley grains. The complex malt character blends the velvety sweetness of specialty grains with the creaminess of a classic stout. No flavoring has been added to this product.

Bottle thanks to TheBeerSommelier: Pours a nearly opaque black with dark mahogany edges and a thin, wispy-lacing light tan head. Aroma of sweet sugary dark malts and some candy raisins with a touch of coffee. Body starts fairly full and sugary sweet with some milk chocolate before a warming roasty coffee finish. Needs a little more full malty balance and complexity, but has nice coffee character.

Pours brownish/black with thin tan head. Aroma of cocoa, roasted malt, and slight notes of coffee. Taste heavy on chocolate. Medium to thick mouthfeel. Easy drinking. Pretty good.

Bottle shared by goldtwins. Deep brown/black beer with a thin white head. Aroma is a bit cocoaish and lightly coffeeish. Lots of toasted grain, light licorice and sweet plummy fruitiness. Deep rich cocoa flavour, especially as the beer starts to warm up. Lots of mocha. A little bit peppery and boozy towards the back. Pretty solid.

22oz bottle acquired in trades with emacgee & SoLan (thanks!). Poured a dark black color with reddish brown edges and an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of roast, chocolate, earthy, and some coffee. Tastes of roast (but not as roasty as the aroms), chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and some dark fruits. Alcohol content overall well hidden.

22 oz bottle courtesy of Suttree. Pour is hazed black, with a tan smallish head. Aroma of roast dark chocolate, coffee, thick sweet maltiness, and a touch of soy. Taste of milky roasted espresso coffee maltiness. Under the coffee notes is some fruit sweetness, dates and plums. The finish was unusual, chalky and dry, yet quite sweet. Palate is medium heavy, silky and mouth coating. Thanks for sending this my way, Phil.

Black body with an orange and tan colored head. The aroma was dark pancake syrup and molasses. There was also some plum. the taste was mocha and molasses. Lots of coffee with a very thick mouthfeel. This was ok, but just trying to be overwhelming.

Poured a fairly opaque black with a reddish edge and medium sized tan head. Oily legs. Nice smooth roasted malt aroma with some notes of fruit and nuts. Good chocolate. The flavor was of dark bitter chocolate with a sweet middle that dries out at the finish. Mildly bitter. Medium bodied with a long chocolate finish.

22 oz. bottle shared by goldtwins. Pours black with a minimal tan head. Very pleasant aroma of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. The flavor is again chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Smooth at the finish with mild bitterness. Full bodied. Very enjoyable.
