Commercial Description:
A unique Highland creation, this robust beer is black in color, very malty with hints of chocolate-roasted flavor and a well balanced hop character.

dark color. not much head, but left a great lacing. cocoa chocolate aroma, with hint of malt. very pleasing to the nose. very smooth porter. nice balance of flavor, chocolate, malt, didn’t detect much oatmeal-esque flavors. very enjoyable. roasted after taste. very smooth and easy and enjoyable to drink!

Bottle @ The Hare & Hound Pub, Landrum SC. This is a solid offering from a solid local brewery. I had it along with a Guinness beef stew (broke with convention and did NOT order a Guinness...) and it was ideal. One word to describe this beer overall: wonderful. Pleasant, enjoyable, smooth, silky, easy -- a great dinner companion.

12oz bottle, pours a deep black but is thin and easy drinking, perhaps due to the oatmeal... its not bad, the traditional porter flavors shine through but their version is smoother... and easy to drink perhaps due to lower ABV also.

12oz bottle. Dark brown to black pour with a creamy, bubbly tan head, around 2 fingers thick. Good retention and tons of sheet lacing. Awesome looking beer. Nose of coffee grounds, sweet milk chocolate, doughy elements (oatmeal maybe?), roasty charred malts. Very charred on the fore, heavily astringent with a semi-sweet chocolate backing. Also pick up some oatmeal flakes, dark malts and some molasses. Back of the beer keeps up that intensity. This thing is really roasted all to hell. Thin-medium bodied, slick mouthfeel, oatmeal adds a bit of heft but overall it’s on the thin side. Finish is roasted (what else?), chocolate and malts, super long but ending a bit flat and watery and the very far reaches of the swallow. Great porter.

Presented almost black with a ruby hue and a heavily lacing brownish head. Smells roasty with a little chocolate. Tastes roasty, a little cocoa, lots of hop bitterness. The oatmeal is a nice touch. Smooth in the mouth with a light body. Very drinkable

Sweet roasted meal flavor. Typical coloring for a porter with a lacy head. Not as thick as some other porters.

Deep, dark mahogany body. A small cream colored head forms at the top but quickly dissipates to a wispy film with a small edge. Random snake-like lacing scars the glass. The aroma shows toasted barley, dark caramel, chocolate malts, and a faint touch of coffee with cream. The flavor follows suit, with a hefty amount of toasted oatmeal adding dryness and smoothness at the same time. Dry grains are a common theme here, and they fit in quite well. The palate is just on the thin side for the style, but very smooth and easy to drink, finishing pretty dry and roasty. Nice session porter. I’d definitely go for a few of these when in the right mood.
