Commercial Description:
A unique Highland creation, this robust beer is black in color, very malty with hints of chocolate-roasted flavor and a well balanced hop character.

Highland Oatmeal Porter pours pretty clear brown to dark brown color. It has a small foamy light tan head the flass to leave a thin crown. The aroma isn’t very description, but does have a little dark malt, char/smoke, and dark fruits. The flavor definitely has some definition though. It includes dark, roasted malts (with a hint of charcoal), some weak coffee and chocolate, and caramel. More dark chocolate and other roasted flavors come out as the beer warms up somewhat. I only detect some hops (delicate floral and grassy flavors) in the roasty finish, so the bitterness level is pretty subdued, but really balances this beer out well and doesn’t go too far. The beer is smooth and the palate and medium to medium-full in body. The carbation level is just right for this beer and the style. I would have expected a little bit of a creamy character due to the oatmeal, but I really didn’t pick any up. It’s still pretty good either way though. This is a well done robust porter... 12 oz bottle from decaturstevo (Dec 2006). Thanks Steve!

One of my favorites. Thick and sweet, but with a nice bitter finish. I drink this stuff religiously. Reccomended.

Bottle. Dark brown with red undertones and an average sized tan creamy head. A sweet aroma but the taste is mostly hops and the chocolate flavor it claims to have is definitely muted. A bitter finish on the tongue. A decent beer but it was $ 9.00 for the 6 pack and a Yuengling black and tan is just as good.

Nice aroma, coffee, caramel.Pours kind of a dark brown with not much head. Looks almost like a soda. Flavor hits nice, but ends with a kind of dull roastiness. A littel thin, but not too bad overall.

Very dark brown, slight ruby light shines through. Tan head that fades quickly. nose is roasty chocolate, malt is almost burnt. A hint of smoke. Flavor is nearly burnt malt, fruits, vanilla. Something old & comfortable. Bittersweet burnt cocoa finish.

Draft at Taco Mac, TN. Pours black color with an average frothy light brown head that was lasting with fair lacing. Moderate roasted coffee nutty aroma. Medium body. Balanced roasted bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of an average duration. Drinkable porter.

Thanks to Cougar for sending this as a bonus in a recent trade. It is amazing to find out how many craft brewers are plying their trade in what I have not thought of as a beer mecca. While not quite on the same level as Duck Rabbit, this is still a very well done oatmeal porter.

Aroma / Appearance - A one finger foamy head lingered over the top of a caramelized copper colored body. The aroma reminds me of fresh hot oatmeal with a trace amount of milk poured into it then topped with strawberries and sugar. Throw in a cup of straight black coffee alongside it to complete the experience.

Flavor / Palate - Mint, chocolate chips and cherry juice form the initial impression. After that comes the taste of watered down coffee with a malty prescence. Underneath the taste is a base of oatmeal and cream. The finish reminds me of a Milky Way bar. It feels just a little on the thin side but overall it is not too bad. I could see drinking this on a cool late fall or early spring day. It is a good transition from winter imperial stouts to lighter summer beers.
