| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 13, 2006 From the bottle...this was the perfect beer to take with me for a weekend in the Blue Ridge mountains. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, some dark barley, and (you guessed it) oatmeal. Goes down VERY smooth, with a clean, very flavorful finish. One of the more easy-drinking porters I’ve sampled. Quite nice. Cletus (5057), Connecticut, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Nov 7, 2006 Bottle from ross. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Smells of coffee, oatmeal and some earthy hops. Tastes of some chocolate and coffee but very watery and boring. Odeed (1677), Bakersfield, California, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 5, 2006 Pours a deep brown. Nice frothy head from the oats. Good creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is somewhat bland. Not much to say other that it’s a standar porter. Decent and drinkable brew, but nothing to write home about. beerBB (132), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 3, 2006 rather thin overall. some roasted malts with a little chocolate countered with some hops. Nothing notable in this beer. Love the style overall but this beer was just a weak attempt at it. walleye (881), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 31, 2006 dude - the head just sits there. it’s magnificent. there’s a little bit of toffee, bread, and coffee in the aroma. this beer simply looks tasty. it’s a jet black pour, period. i thought most schwarzbiers and black lagers were jet black, but i think i was mistaken. i should amend this to include this highland strain of alcoholic goodness. once i actually taste(d) this, i noticed, above all, a thickness to it, which screamed ’oatmeal’, duh! but also there’s bread there as well. it’s a pleasant balance of malt and hops in my book. there’s a slight bitter taste, but it’s balanced by a bit of saltiness, which is nowhere close to a negative. it defintely sits a bit heavier than most as well, as most in its class do. damn! my hat is off to the fabulous brewers of Highland Brewing. i wish there was a tip jar for the brewers that would just float aimlessly around til one popped the cap, wherever they may be. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 21, 2006 Poured a dark robust, almost black, brew. Smelled sweet and malty, no hops. The head was thick and creamy, with lacing, it was tan, and lasted a medium length. Taste lacked character, had some roast to it, and was a little watery. The palate was smooth and the finish lack luster. Overall, i was disappointed.
