Flavor was very light, roasted malts and oatmeal. Palate was thin. I was hoping for a little more flavor really, I think it’s there but not as robust as they say. iowaherkeye (1858), Los Angeles, California, USA

Pours a clear deep mahogany with a tiny beige head. Aroma is quite roasty with some bitter chocolate, some brown sugar and a smidge of vanilla. Taste is much the same with the chocolate and bitter roastiness up front, and finishes a slightly chalky and bitter. Bitterness seems to come from the roasted malts, because I’m not really getting any hops anywhere. A little bit thinner than what I had wanted, though the mouthfeel is nice and smooth thanks to the oatmeal. Lightly carbonated. Not too bad of a beer. MI2CA (1266), Noblesville, Indiana, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 19, 2006 I’m surprised at how well-liked this beer is, and I even wonder if I didn’t have a bad bottle or something! It looked like cola - with no head, big bubbles...the aroma is of roasted malts, very simple and not complex at all. Some oatmeal in the aroma and in the flavor. The body is light, only slightly sweet and malty. Thin and watery. In the finish is a lingering wheaty, honey-filled sweetness. 19641948 (491), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA

The folks in the mountains of Asheville, NC have really produced a quality porter. Pours a deep dark chocolate brown, dare I say black in color. Light is impenetrable. A tan head that laces gorgeously down the sides of the pint. A roasted malt flavor that carries hints of coffee and chocolate. Very smooth...due to the oatmeal? Not over the top with their hop balance. Just enough bitterness to compliment the malt. Superb.

Hoppy aroma, too hoppy for a porter. Good charcoal in mouth, some sourness. Pretty good finish now tooo. Dryness on end. It gets better as it goes on. Naven (873), Poway, California, USA

Head is thin, mouthfeel is thin and watery. Taste is fairly nice with a nice malty/chocolate bite. I would like this a lot more if it had a little more bite. I like my porters a little thicker. Still, pretty good.
