Commercial Description:
A unique Highland creation, this robust beer is black in color, very malty with hints of chocolate-roasted flavor and a well balanced hop character.

Bottle from Beer_Hawk. Pours a hazy, medium brown color with a small off white head and decent amount of lacing. Aroma is mild with a slight roastiness and a dry, oatmeal hint that hits the nose. Flavor is weak with slightly bitter coffee hints and a little bit of vanilla coming through at the end. Kind of drying on the palate. not a bad beer at all but there really isn’t anything that sounds out about this beer (in my opinion).

Pours dark with a creamy head. Smells of vanilla cream. This is my first porter, so maybe I don’t know the style well, but this could easily pass for a stout if it was less carbonated. The malt character is very chocolatey with a hint of burnt bread. Some hops in the finish. I think I’m going to like porters.

Eminently flavorful and redolent of vanilla, and chocolate roast malt, Highliand Oatmeal Porter is silky and medium-bodied on the tongue. Topped with a rocky persistent tan head and dripping with roasty malt character, this porter was slightly sweet and finished on a dark chocolate note. Hop character is present, but very well balanced with the roasty malt profile.

Thanks Bro (Beer_Hawk) for sending this beer. A medium thick to thick head sits upon a reddish-brown body and some lacing is left on the glass. This brew is slightly sweet and malty with a slight roastiness and a touch of vanilla and coffee. A little thin for a proter and smooth.

Bottled thanks to Sumdog. Poured a clear, medium iced tea/amber with a tall cap of beige head. Nose was of toasty biscuits, semi-sweet chocolate, and soapy floral hoppage.. medium roast and rather weak. Flavor was primarily of the same roasty chocolate with coffee and leafy bitters surrounding the tongue. Cola-like mouthfeel with a lighter body didn’t flow as well as I’d like... and the roasted chocolate finish kinda fizzes out. OK overall, but no shining star in the porter world.

Pours a mostly black color with a rather thick tan head. Some traces of red around the edges. Strong chocolate aroma and roasted malts. Flavor is sweet with chocolate hints and a thick mouthfeel. Coats the throat as it goes down. Classically delicious.

Very dark body with a pleasant smell. Taste of oatmeal very present with slight roasted flavors following. The end was slightly hoppy, almost balanced. Wonderful beer, but I think it needed to be a bit more roasted and chocolatey to be called a porter. It didn’t contain a bite like a stout would either. It was very smooth... not sure what to call it except good!

On tap at the Brick Store Pub and served in a pint glass. This was a very dark beer almost black, but when held up to the light it was a very deep (very) amber color. It had a creamy off-white head and left minimal lacing on the glass. The aroma was of roasted malts with no hops presence. The taste was pretty much the same, but chocolate notes were detectable. I rated this beer before I enjoyed it with a hunk of chocolate cake to celebrate my b-day. :-)
