Aroma was pretty low intesnity though I didn’t give it very long to warm I’d stille xpect more aroma than this. Faintly roasty with a bit of green tobacco. Deep black with a quickly fading mocha head. Fore is roasted malts and coffee..no real chocolate notes though I get hints of darker fruits. Palate is a bit thin and it rolls into the flavor which makes the finish slightly watery. Highland might be the one brewery that has beers I really like a lot that aren’t porters or stouts. I thinkt he Tasgall is very nice, but the Porter and Stout, to me, were lacking. decaturstevo (2010), decatur, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 25, 2006 A roasted/burnt malt aroma. Pours up with a frothy light brown head that hangs around a little longer than many. Looks really good in the glass just a tad more red than some. Has a good initial bitter and decent finishing bitter. Medium body, with a dry, slightly watery texture. Has good soft carbonation on the drink. Easliy an above average brew. thardy (1), USA does not count | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 19, 2006 One of my favorite beers. It has a nice thick head, though not as creamy as you might expect. THe coloring is a dark, almost chocolate color with an amber tinge. Good luck trying to look through the glass with this beer. It has a rich aroma and actually reminded me somewhat of a chocolate yogurt that I enjoy. The taste is rich and sweet but not sickeningly as with some sweeter porters. IT has a very smooth finish and little or no bitterness in the aftertaste. MikeMac (185), Wyandotte, Michigan, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 4, 2006 Thanks Quiver. Pours a dark brown to almost black. What little head fizzles away quickly. Faint roast malt and choclolate in the aroma.Very dry roast malt flavor up front followed with some dark fruit to moalsses. Mouthfel is somewhat grainy. Not bad but lacks a few things to make it a higher score. JPDIPSO (4932), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 25, 2006 Dark brown with a tinge of orange when held to the light. Taller somewhat fluffy dull tan head. Chocolate and molasses aromas overpower the somewhat citric hops. Very dark and rick in the aroma, but somethings just don’t seem to meld together. Dry roasty flavors with a light lush feel. Dark chocolate, chocolate malt, and just a touch of black malt bitterness. Very drinkable. A true brew for a working person. Beige head fades to film. Coats glass quite nicely. Aroma rather muted, but hints of chocolate, sweet malt and grain/oats. Flavor much the same, with a big residuel sweetness in the finish. Nice mouthfeel, a little less carbonation would go a long way. Nice porter, just lacks a tiny bit in each category. Little tweaking in the aroma and flavor could make this a borderline 4.0 beer. Pours a dark reddish-amber, with a thick tan head that lingers and leaves nice lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, slightly sweet molasses, and just a hint of citrus. Taste is mildly sweet and roasty, with flavors of molasses, oats, a bit of chocolate, and some bitterness on the finish that increases towards the end of the glass. Smooth and slightly creamy. Very good and quite drinkable; one of my favorite "default" beers. MrManning (1655), London, Ontario, Canada

Opaque dark ruby, with great mocha skin and spiderwebs. Roasted aromas match up well with coffee and chocolate. The mouth is teased with dark chocolate, roasted malt, and espresso. SIlky smooth and coating. The pepto bismol of porters, if you will. Lingering bitter hop-coffee finish. Very well made. Thanks again Brad.
