Commercial Description:
A unique Highland creation, this robust beer is black in color, very malty with hints of chocolate-roasted flavor and a well balanced hop character.

Poured dark brown, with an off0white head that dissipated quickly, leaving little lace. The aroma was malty, with chocolate notes, and the flavor was about the same. A little bit of hops in the finish. The oatmeal comes through a bit in the palate. Overall, I’ve had better porters, but it was certainly drinkable. The price was a bit much for what you get in return, though.

Bottle. Jet black in color with a nice tan head that was a little fizzy for a porter. Milk chocolate/caramel nose with a hint of hops. The flavor was roasted, chocolate, caramel with a hoppy balance. Light bitterness and a light chocolate aftertaste. Medium body.

A good dark beer. Very malty with a sweet smoothness that’s not oppressive. Not very hoppy at all. Full thick body.

Jax Beer and Wine, Atlanta, Ga - 12 oz bottle. Dark purple fading to black pour with a mocha colored head, thin, but long lasting. Not much of an aroma, perhaps a touch of fresh lake water, some school paste (the kind you ate as a kid). Flavor has some brief chocolate notes, some milkiness. Decent lacticity, medium thick mouthfeel. Tastes slightly metallic in the finish. Had worse.

Caramel-coloerd head with moderate retention. Beer is dark brown, almost black, slight tinge of red when held up to bright light. Full-bodied and richly-flavored while still being smooth. Not as intense as many other porters. I think the presence of the oatmeal mellows it out. Maybe it isn’t truly representitive of porters, but I don’t care...I like it.

Black with a medium tan head. Nose and taste overwhelmed with chocolate. Very full in the mouth, silky, goes down smooth. Tastes cold.
