Commercial Description:
A unique Highland creation, this robust beer is black in color, very malty with hints of chocolate-roasted flavor and a well balanced hop character.

Obtained in a trade today with Jonathan3584. Pours very deep brown with a nice tan head that settles to about an eighth of an inch and laces the glass well. Aroma is sweet chocolate, coffee, and burnt malt. Flavor is sweet but more like oatmeal than like chocolate the roasted maltiness is delicous and lends way to a nice bitter finish. This is very balanced, smooth and creamy and kind of thick for a porter. It coats the palate well. I found this a delicious porter and I’m very glad that I had a chance to taste this NC beer via trade.

A fizzy head that lasts a short while. but a very attractive, clear dark red-brown beer - not opaque.. Coffee and scones, but a bit mediciney . Dry, roasted, high bitterness but set off well by the roasted malts. Lingers well with an alcohol warmth. Very nice, an old favorite.

(12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with suttree, thanks Phil!) I find this to be a pretty average porter across the board. Moderate roast in the flavor, some oatmeal and gentle sourness early, mild smokiness in the finish. Light sweetness lurks in the background. Mild bitterness isn’t surprising because this porter isn’t especially flavorful, roasty or hoppy. Some roast in the nose, but also some off aromas. Medium-to-full bodied. The oatmeal seems to add a bit of extra viscosity to the standard porter palate. The color is as dark a brown as you can get without it being black. Average, light tan head pours to an average size and fades to an average rim. Yeah, I reiterate, this is an average porter to me. That doesn’t mean bad, it just means it doesn’t stand out in any way.

nice thick dark almost black color with a nice dirty white head on it. Solid solid aroma full of thick oatmeal tones, like maply syrup and brown sugar oatmeal. Tasted very smooth with the same maple brown sugar oatmeal tones. Very solid indeed.

Bottle acquired in trade with goldtwins. Pours a very dark brown color with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of mainly roasted malts. Tastes of roasted malts, dark fruits, and light chocolate. Lightly sweet tasting. Palate was a little on the thin side.

pours a dark brown, but not totally solid, with hints of amber, a thin layer of tan cream head stayed on the beer the whole time. has a very malty aroma, nothing else really going on there. a little sweetness, alot of maltiness in the flavor, just a tad taste of chocolates towards the end. a little bitter on the tail, and it stays in your mouth after each swallow. a medium body, with a nice mouthfeel. this was my first brew from this brewer, and i am looking forward to the rest of their fare i have in my cellar. thanks to goldtwins for this.

Roasted malt aroma. Low carbonation with medium head that settles out to a thin layer. Color is black. Mouthfeel is pleasant with a rich maltiness and light bitterness on back of tongue that fades almost too quickly. Overall, a very good oatmeal porter that I will definitely buy again. Can’t wait to try Highland’s other ales.

Nearly opaque rich dark brown color with a thin, lightly-lacing tan head. Aroma of sweet caramel corn and chocolate milk with a touch of roastiness. Starts malty and sweet with a smooth chocolatey mouthfeel leading to a semi-sweet, sticky roasty finish. A very nice porter, thanks goldtwins!
