| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 7, 2009 120z Bottle purchased at Chucks in Chagrin Falls. Aroma is a semi bitter chocolate scent with a little roasted oatmeal. The flavor is rich, rather full of chocolate and roasted malts, but is kept pretty smooth by the oatmeal character. I like this beer, it is sweet and smooth all around, especially for a porter. curly (759), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 23, 2009 She poured a solid brown with hints of burnt amber and whispers of blacker depths lurking within. Not stopping there, she is topped by a thick head of tan foam made up of velvety soft, tightly packed bubbles. Very nice. As the head recedes, a trail of lace marks her path and I mark my own as I raise my glass to partake of her awaiting nose. Chocolate, toasted oats, bread, fruits (apples, pears), vanilla, nutmeg, and a grapefruit finish capture my attention. Such seductive temptation of my senses can’t be denied and so I delve quickly and deeply into her body which is also soft, full, and velvety smooth. A crisp grapefruit finish much like her nose snaps my attention back to the very beginning where I am beguiled by more apples, milk chocolate, toasted malts, dates, bitter coffee, and prunes balanced by a softness unlike none other in the mouthfeel and palate. Ode de Oatmeal, indeed. Pleasant oat notes hold together this very vibrant and seductive Oatmeal Porter. Lacking some of the harder characters of her distant cousin, the oatmeal stout, my Highland Brewing Oatmeal Porter is a triumph all her own. As I find myself gazing into the empty bottom of my glass, I am left with a lingering presence of clean milk chocolate, soft oats, and a desire for more.
I am very impressed by my very first beer from Highland Brewing. If the other four beers that wait patiently in my fridge for their inevitable destination in my glass, in my mouth, and in my belly are just as good, I have been truly blessed. Being a lady of proper standing, I plan on not making them wait any longer than they have to. jkwalking05 (1501), Arlington, Texas, USA
