Commercial Description:
Our Scotch-style ale, named from Norse mythology, combines the heritage and tartan of our brew team. The roasted barley and chocolate malt lend a bold flavor to this delicious dark beer. Its increased hop level is a modest departure from a true Scotch-style ale. We hope you agree this is a beer worthy of the name Tasgall, "Cauldron of the Gods."

Bottle from CaptainCougar I think. This had a lot more of a malt blast than I was expecting. I was waiting for that Peat flavor but really got a different brew altogether. This had more of a grain--chocolate taste but still was pretty tasty.

Bottle. Pours an amber-brown with a light tan head. Aroma is full of some big malt elements, a bit of honey, some chocolate and some peat. Flavor also has some big caramel malt elements to it along with some smoked peat and some light candied fruit...some nuttiness to it as well. A bit grainy, decent body with a malty/light smoke finish. The best thing I’ve had from Highland thus far, and not a bad scotch ale.

Pours near black with ruby hues with a mostly receding tan head. Aroma of peat, rye, dark bread, licorice, and aromatic malt. Taste is sweet, bready, smokey with notes of dark malt, with a slightly alcohol note. Mouthfeel is full bodied with lush carbonation. Not bad, but not 95 percentile worthy.

22oz bottle via trade with CaptainCougar. Aroma: Bready malt with a medium sweetness. Baker’s chocolate, caramel, cream, dark fruits, light smoke, and a touch of piney hops. Appearance: Dark brown with a dark reddish highlight. Light tan head was frothy, but didn’t last long. Nice lacing. Flavor: Bready/cakey maltiness with caramel and brown sugar. Chocolate, plums, toasted nuts, smoke, and again a light pine hop into the finish. Finishes sweet, but not cloying. Palate: Medium-full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Overall: A good beer. Was surprised a bit by the hoppiness, constrained as it was. They sort of accentuate the other flavors. Rich and flavorful, without being too heavy.

Bottle shared by nolankowal: Dark brown/reddish, with a light tan head. Aroma, caramel, roasted malts, some floral notes. Flavor, roasty, a light fruitiness, some chocolate, and was kinda nutty. Much better than I thought it would be.

22oz bottle acquired in trade with aracana (thanks!). Poured a dark, dark brown color with a very small sized off white head. Aromas of roast, chocolate, and lightly earthy. Tastes of bitter chocolate, lighter roast, and some caramel. Alcohol content well hidden.

Thanks to hopdog. Pours a dark brown with some ruby red when held to the light with a small off white head that went away fairly quickly. Aroma of dark fruits, toffee, caramel and vanilla. Flavors of the same with some light roast, some coffee in the tail along with some bitter chocolate.
