I was waiting for that Peat flavor but really got a different brew altogether. This had more of a grain--chocolate taste but still was pretty tasty. nolankowal (851), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 4, 2006 Bottle. Pours an amber-brown with a light tan head. Aroma is full of some big malt elements, a bit of honey, some chocolate and some peat. Flavor also has some big caramel malt elements to it along with some smoked peat and some light candied fruit...some nuttiness to it as well. A bit grainy, decent body with a malty/light smoke finish. The best thing I’ve had from Highland thus far, and not a bad scotch ale. TheBeerOrg (1577), Kentucky, USA

Aroma of peat, rye, dark bread, licorice, and aromatic malt. Taste is sweet, bready, smokey with notes of dark malt, with a slightly alcohol note. Mouthfeel is full bodied with lush carbonation. Not bad, but not 95 percentile worthy. RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 29, 2006 22oz bottle via trade with CaptainCougar. Aroma: Bready malt with a medium sweetness. Baker’s chocolate, caramel, cream, dark fruits, light smoke, and a touch of piney hops. Appearance: Dark brown with a dark reddish highlight. Light tan head was frothy, but didn’t last long. Nice lacing. Flavor: Bready/cakey maltiness with caramel and brown sugar. Chocolate, plums, toasted nuts, smoke, and again a light pine hop into the finish. Finishes sweet, but not cloying. Palate: Medium-full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Overall: A good beer. Was surprised a bit by the hoppiness, constrained as it was. They sort of accentuate the other flavors. Rich and flavorful, without being too heavy. sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA
