| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 2, 2006 Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc & tupalev -- my bottle courtesy of ross. Pours a murky dark ruby with a good size tan head. Slightly mild aroma of caramel malt, smoke, chocolate and hops. Flavour is nice and malty with some smoke, hops, chocolate, dark fruit and alcohol. Medium bodied. This is definitely up there with some of the best Scotch Ales I’ve had -- great stuff! vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 1, 2006 Big thanks to Beerdrenched for sharing this brew. Pours dark ruby / brown with a fairly small tan head. Aroma has brown sugar and dark fruits (passion fruit?) with some tartness. Med / full body beer with light soft carbonation. Taste has chalky chocolate with dark fruits (figs?) - there is a light roastiness as well. Finish starts chalky adn sour. Further down the sourness turnes to spiciness. Chocolate gets richer further down as well, pretty creamy. A very nice beer, but not too much resemblence to a scotch ale in my opinion. GregClow (2498), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Deep garnet with a small tan head. Aroma is a bit stale, but pleasant - lots of malt, a bit of smoke and some tartness in the finish. Flavour is very nice - malt & chocolate, a bit earthy, and a hint of spice & smoke in the finish. Very nice! tupalev (2617), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, GregClow, Blankboy, and Jerc, Blankboy’s bottle. Nice deep dark brown, small tan head. Decent malt, hint of smoke and alcohol in mild aroma. Wow, doesn’t prepare you for the incredible taste: deep, rich sweet chocolate malts which compliment the alcohol. Toast-like finish with some nice bitterness. There are a ton of flavours in this rich hearty brew. It started off average and finished as one of the best Scotch Ales I have ever had, well done Highland.
