Commercial Description:
Our Scotch-style ale, named from Norse mythology, combines the heritage and tartan of our brew team. The roasted barley and chocolate malt lend a bold flavor to this delicious dark beer. Its increased hop level is a modest departure from a true Scotch-style ale. We hope you agree this is a beer worthy of the name Tasgall, "Cauldron of the Gods."

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, blankboy, tupalev & jerc - courtesy of blankboy. Deep garnet with a small tan head. Aroma is a bit stale, but pleasant - lots of malt, a bit of smoke and some tartness in the finish. Flavour is very nice - malt & chocolate, a bit earthy, and a hint of spice & smoke in the finish. Very nice!

Another re-rate courtesy of Jon - I came in a 4.0 this time, 3.8 last. A big peaty, smoky Scotch Ale, fantastic again! Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, GregClow, Blankboy, and Jerc, Blankboy’s bottle. Nice deep dark brown, small tan head. Decent malt, hint of smoke and alcohol in mild aroma. Wow, doesn’t prepare you for the incredible taste: deep, rich sweet chocolate malts which compliment the alcohol. Toast-like finish with some nice bitterness. There are a ton of flavours in this rich hearty brew. It started off average and finished as one of the best Scotch Ales I have ever had, well done Highland.

Bottle. Roasted grain - granola, honey, a bit spice. Cloudy brown, low off-white head. Vineous raisin base, chocolate and coffee. Medium body, mellow sparkly body. Nice spicy beer.

Dark brown with mahogany edges. Huge beige head. Up front all kinds of malt. Arom consists of smoky sweet malt, chocolate, fig, prune, faint hop detectable in background. Flavor all over the place. Smoky, caramel, roasted grain, prunes, dry oats, very faint alcohol. Mouthfeel is borderline 5 but appears a tad thin at times. Hard to bump individual scores up but, without question the best scotch ale I have ever had.

2008-07-04. Very dark brown, small khaki head. (3+) Sweetish aroma, touch of peat, malt. (7+) Sweet malt, mild sugars, touch of peat again. (7+) Smooth average to medium palate. Decent well executed Scotch ale, the peat while restrained is just enough to diminish my enjoyment of it. Still quite good. 8/3+/7/3/15-16 Bottle shared by Jon Walker

June 2006. Dark brown body, small tan head. (3+) Malty, earthy aroma, very light anise notes. Similar flavour with lots of earthy malt, caramel and very light hints of licorice. Medium palate. (3+) Quite nice. A very nice Scotch ale. 7/4/8/4/16 - 3.9

Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow, jerc and tupalev - blankboy’s bottle. Poured deep clear ruby with a decent creamy tan head. Aroma - malty! - lightly roast malt, lactose, very mild slightly funky hops, chocolate, oats and a hint of fresh peat. Lord this is tasty - huge malt character, almost burnt, oats, some alcohol, more bitter hops than the nose indicated, stewed prunes and chocolate on warming, a lovely, long complex malty finish. Thick creamy body, left me wanting more: terrific scotch ale.

A 22oz bomber I’ve had for over 6 months. Finally cracked it open and man did I enjoy. Pours a dark brown with a nice dark tan head. An aroma of malt, chocolate and light alcohol. A good flavor of sweet malt and light alcohol. An excellent thick mouth feel. I drank this beer at about 55 degress it was excellent.
