chris_o (4409), London, Greater London, England May 4, 2008 Cask (handpump) at the Ship & Mitre, Liverpool. Dark red/brown - not entirely opaque. Quite roasty aroma. Some chocolate in the flavour. Burnt bitterness amplifies on the finish. Dry mouthfeel. Pretty decent. Although this brewery is promoted as a resurrection of the old Liverpool brewery that eventually became Cains, I don’t ever remember them making a stout in the old days.
imdownthepub (4045), Banbury, Oxfordshire, Oxfordshire, England May 10, 2008 Cask conditioned at Banbury Beer Fest ’08. Dark brown with slight tan head. Dark roasted malts make a solid body for a dry thick stout, roasted coffee notes and a touch of sweetish chocolate. Dry in the finish, it’s quite a decent example of a stout. harrisoni (5129), Ashford, Kent, England Apr 26, 2008 Cask handpull at The Belvedere, Liverpool. Very dark brown with thick dark beige head. Very decent stout. Good thickness in the mouth. Lovely choc, bit of charcoal, but that’s a very good stout, good intensity, lovely grainy choc. Both Higson’s beers have been tasty. This is enormously drinkable.
