| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 6, 2008 Updated: Dec 28, 2008On tap at Hinterland. I was anxious in tasting this but man, was it worth the wait. Appearance is a deep rich brown color with medium mocha head. Aroma is of intense bourbon with vanilla, charred oak, marshmallow and chocolate. Taste is upfront with bourbon which allows the roasted malt, chocolate and coffee to follow. This is a full bodied brew that feels like an Imperial Stout without all the weight of the alcohol. Excellent. Ughsmash (4031), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 26, 2007 Many thanks to David for picking up the growler! Poured a ruby-tinted deep brown with a short cap of medium beige head. The aroma picked up lots of sweet bourbon, dark chocolates, and a touch of coffee.. quite roasty overall.. sweet and enticing. The flavor found deep-roasted dark chocolate and espresso along with charred oak.. espresso bitterness and sweet bourbon accents kiss the edges.. lots more chocolate, toasty oak, and bourbon on the finish.. tasty! About medium-bodied on the palate, grainy, and very roasty.. well-balanced. This was a great example of integrating bourbon barrels with a less-than-imperial stout. 1FastSTi (2560), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA

The flavor is charred marshmallows, light coffee, light notes of bourbon, and light charred wood. The palate is medium bodied, carbonated, and acetic a little bit. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 9, 2007 On draught at the brewpub in Green Bay, Wisconsin as "Hinterland Bourbon Barrel Stout." Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a creamy tan head that quickly dissolves to a film with some spotty lacing. Aroma of tasted dark malt, dark chocolate with some coffee, licorice and a touch of vanilla. Taste is where I detected some of the bourbon barrel aging but very lightly. Character is full bodied, very light carbonation with a dark chocolate flavor. Finish is smooth, creamy with some dark chocolate and bourbon flavors. A decent sipping brew. jj21 (84), Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, USA

Hinterlands highly acclaimed Luna Coffee Stout lends itself perfectly to barrel aging. We cellar this rich stout for two months in bourbon barrels provided by the Heaven Hill Distillery. The result is a complex beer with a nice background of bourbon and oak. We recommend enjoying this brew slightly chilled. Pour this beer and let it rest while you enjoy another of our award winning selections. It will be worth the wait! Opaque, black and rich.
Wow, get this while it’s around! When I first heard about it, I couldn’t control the drooling. The Luna Stout was great as it was, but Bourbon Barrel Aged!?!? Pours black with a thin, dense brown head. Black body. Aromas of coffee and chocolate with a backbone of bourbon. Somewhat sweeter than I expected. Tastes a hell of a lot stronger than the percentage leads to believe. Compared to the regular, it’s missing somthing withouht the nitro, but is still a fine stout. Probably one of the best session stouts you’ll find. I could drink only this for the rest of my life and die a happy man!
