Brown with a red hue. Low carbonation, but a short lived, brown head. Aroma has malt and read meat. Lots of malt in the flavor, with fresh bread and lager yeast. Very smooth, and a good, sweet finish. travita (1926), Frisco, Texas, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 28, 2009 Draft, Bavarian Lodge. I had to squeeze in just one more before closing to wash out the unpleasant chile mead in my previous rating. A deep reddish brown color in the glass, with a light lacy head. Smell brings in darker malts, more familiar to a schwarzbier. A hearty, grainy dunkel taste. At the same time, reminds me of my very first dark beers (Schlitz Dark, way back in 1977). But it has the bones of a well-made doppelbock, too. A fine beer to finish off a night at a German stube. mar (1903), Dallas, Texas, USA
