| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 28, 2008 Bright and powerful espresso edge, pretty acidic and sharp. Soft earthy character to it, almost like charred chocolate and oak in the finish. I enjoyed this beer after the initial overwhelming espresso sharpness dulled my palate. Its a nice stout, just with a massive coffee edge. ARMed (486), Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Oct 27, 2008 Creamy stout with a powerful chocolate flavor. The palate has a slight smokiness which has a alcohol overtone. This stout is deep and thick with a viscous body. There is a deep dark borwn head with a moderate lacing. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 27, 2008 Dark brown with large tan head, long lasting despite receding and leaving lacing all over the glace. Nose reminds of Founders, vegetal bean deluxe, some tobacco and smoke, and yet there’s also this odd raisin/burnt sugar scent. Flavor carries more tobacco and coffee, and probably vanilla. As it warms, vanilla and chocolate are well-incorporated, so it’s never singular and over-bitter. Moderate sized body, rather creamy. It doesn’t go as far overboard with the coffee and thus allows room for other stuff, and so I think I prefer it to Mikkeller’s and Founder’s. Still, coffee stouts aren’t really my thing. steview (902), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Oct 23, 2008 sweet coffee aroma; that motor oil pour, thick and sparkling brown head, moderate lacing; dark fruits, coffee, roasted chocolate, sugar; pretty tasty, but it ends somewhat bitter and fruity like fruit that sat out for an extra day, and served with some old coffee... meh. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 20, 2008 11.2oz from Sam’s, Durham. Very appealing aroma, initially strong roasts that (to me) specifically recalled Bell’s Java. But there’s a softness to this brew, almost a lactic, sweet stout quality that makes this one sort of a hybrid. Sweet stout and chocolate malts, with intensely bitter espresso, dry but not too burnt, which is quite nice and lets the finest qualities of the bean itself come through. Substantial body, smooth mouthfeel. A good one. MartinT (5068), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 19, 2008 My Bottom Line:
This Stout’s lush mouthfeel expresses roasted caramel maltiness and lenient coffee in a chewy and lightly bitter vehicle.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-Thick foam covers the pitch darkness.
-This bottle feels a tad old, which may have affected the coffee aroma somewhat.
-The roasted caramel takes on pumpernickel and molasses allusions as well.
-Its rich body is one of its best features.
-Some roasted malt bitterness finishes each sip.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 16, 2008 Getting notebook online. Bottle. Pours a coffee black with a slight cream head. Espresso on the nose is a little subtle. Flavors are not. Real good espresso flavors with some dried fruit and vanilla accents. Very tasty coffee stout. Strykzone (1486), Wood River, Illinois, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 15, 2008 Pours thick and black with a smallish tan head. Aroma is delightful and potent. It is full of black cherry, coffee beans, and vanilla. Flavor is more roasted coffee note with chocolate and dark fruit. Aftertaste is surprisingly tart with a long lasting bitterness. Zesty and well carbonated feel, even mildly volcanic on the tongue. This beer is thick and substantial in body and is very good! Enough coffee one could enjoy it with breakfast.
