Commercial Description:
Caramel, roasted, black and chocolate malts provide an explosion of coffee like flavors. The strong espresso character comes from the addition of espresso beans to the boil. Notes of vanilla, dark fruit , cocao and chocolate. The very unusual character of Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout stems from the fact that Kiuchi Brewery is using the recipe of a Russian Imperial Stout as base. Pitch black color, big brown head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted bitterness, black currants, dark fruits.

Really? The aroma smelled of cheap coffee. Appearance was black with mocha head. Flavor has cheap coffee flavor and a hint of chocolate. Palate was bubbly. Not impressed. Overrated in my book.

Strong flavor, strong aftertaste. This is a heavy beer. One to sip and savory. Very good but a little overpowering for me.

Black oily body and massive lasting light brown head. Smell of coffee, caramel, and roasted grains. Tastes like dark chocolate, sweet malts with a heavy coffee roast. Glorius! Chocolate and coffee rule supreme. A very thick rich palate, medium finish.

The beer pours a jet black with a deep reddish brown head and some decent retention. The aroma is complex with deep coffee and sweet roasty malt with a little cherry like sourness. The espresso dominates the flavor of this stout. The roasty flavors are abound and the beer is very bitter and mildly smoky with a nice little burnt toast thing going on. Are we sure this isn’t an imperial stout, this certainly rides the line if anything.

330ml bottle. Pours black with a huge creamy tan head that looks like a sponge. Nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and sweet malts. Big espresso flavor with dark chocolate, vanilla, and hint of balancing sweetness. Light and smooth on the palate. An excellent, drinkable coffee stout.

330 ml bottle from Country Club Liquors. Nose of espresso, coffee, light vanilla, and chocolate. Black with a medium, glass-lacing, tan head. Flavor is heavy coffee, light bitterness, and some vanilla and pepperiness.
