A very good IPA...something different here, though. Aroma of grassy hops. Pour was a nice dark hazy orange with a one finger white head. Taste was classic IPA; dry, very hoppy with just a tad of malt in the middle to balance it out. But what it odd is I taste ginger in this beer. Also there is a peppery aftertaste. Neither were expected, but add to the complexity and oddity of this beer. I haven’t seen any other comments about this. Very good IPA from this Japanese brewer. Hides the 7% well also.

Grapefruit citrus and ceder aroma. Hazy orange color with a large white head. Ceder and grapefruit hops with a slight amount of malts throughout the taste. Malt gets mildly strong in the finish.

I’m not really getting much from the aroma. Some light malt, not much hops. Bright copper, small white head. Interesting. A light sweet creaminess, I’m assuming from the cedar.

Cedar aroma. Very woody. Pours copper with a nice long lasting head. Initial flavor is mostly cedar with hints of sweet malt and faint hops. As it warms though, a nice citrus hoppiness comes through. The cedar still is the dominant quality in this beer as it subdues both the malts and hops. An interesting ale to say the least. Very smooth drinking ale.

Pours a dark copper with a thick lasting head. Roasted barley, cedar in the aroma then becoming much more citrus as you go through the bottle. About half way through the bottle, it was much more grapefruit aroma then later in the bottle which was more orange aroma. Taste is very smooth with a good balance of malt and hops, but definitely a lot of hops. The aftertaste as a nice touch of grapefruit dryness to finish it off. This is by far the best Japanese beer I have ever had.

bottle - Pours copper with a thin head and an aroma of citrus hops and some caramel malt. The flavor is pretty well balanced between the hops and malt though is more mild, especially on the hops, than I expected from an IPA. It’s medium bodied, has a fairly mild finish, and is certainly easy to drink. It could stand to be more assertive though and given that the bar where I found it charges $7 a bottle, I won’t revisit it anytime soon.

09 Sept 07. 330mL bottle, 7% ABV. Matured in cedar casks. Clear, light copper color. Thin tan foamy head. Bready aroma, slight cedar is noticable. Yeasty, spicy and cedar flavors on top of sweet malt. Finish is nice and spicy with some bitterness. Tastes like a lager, but I guess it’s some kinda of IPA... Light bodied, Alcohol (7%??) is very well hidden.
