Flavor is overpoweringly cedar. Other notes of pepper and some hops. Possibly a great beer if you are a woodchuck, beaver or a termite. 1FastSTi (2577), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 17, 2005 Bottle while at the Map Room. The beer pours to a hazy brassy colored body with a creamy thin white head. The aroma is like a malty cedar blanket chest. Smooth cedary malt and light hops. Very unique flavor. The palate has a dry feel with a huge thick creamyness. Very good. Mellow hops. I like the cedar. Not necessarily the best IPA, but it gets bonus points for the cedar casking. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 12, 2005 decent, IPA-like ale, veryy hoppy with hints of vanilla and orange that blooms in the finish. I would try it again! RazingDreamz (123), North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 11, 2005 If this is an IPA, it’s not like any I’ve had. It’s cloudy, and smells nutty-woodsy. Not much head. Taste is not overwhelmingly bitter, but pleasant. Sweet, smoky, fruity. Thicker, too. Altogether, it’s extremely good. Fish (439), Kure, Japan
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 11, 2005 Pours a cloudy orange with a lasting creamy off-white head. Aroma is of a spice that I cannot name, and perhaps some cedar. The bitterness of the fruity hops (which dominate most of the flavor) do not grate on the palate. And there is definitely a lot of yeast in the flavor. This is a unique IPA. But perhaps the most exciting thing about this beer (and this brewery) is that they’re not just cranking out effing pale lagers for export! This is a distinctive brew from east Asia! It’s expensive as hell ($4-5), but it’s really good! There is hope! Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 9, 2005 Not your daddy’s IPA. Pours a rather attractive cloudy orange with a thin yet lasting white head. Flavor had me worried that something was wrong. I was expecting some citrusy or perhaps piney hops but what I got was an odd slightly fruity smell with hints of allspice. Flavor is bitter and hoppy with cedar absolutely dominating everything. The cedar imparts some spiciness to the beer unlike any I have ever come across. Alcohol present in the finish. jewedekind (450), Middleton, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 4, 2005 Pours a orange glass with a frothy white head...lotsa lacework. Aroma is spruce and citrus. A bit sour in a cidery way, sharp on the tongue but lingers long with bitter hops. Can’t tell if this one was a bit old or if it is sour by design. I’d say not, but an interesting beer. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 1, 2005 Wow, what a strange beer. Pours a cloudy orangey amber with a thin white cap head. Aroma is instant cedar with subtle malty notes no real hop aroma. The flavor is something else, it’s at first a little spicey on acount of the cedar. Yet underneath is a mellow english style ipa. If you haven’t tried this beer, you should.
