Aroma is sweet and light fruit, citrus, caramel and malt. Flavor is citurs, light fruits, wood, malt, light hops and some tartness. Not really an IPA by today’s standards. More of a belgain ale with some hops. Reminds me of Orval a little. Glad I was able to try this. FROTHINGSLOSH (2038), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 8, 2009 Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured an orange-copper color with a huge orange-white head. The aroma was sweet, fruity, peppery and woody which reminded me of tequila. Complex on the nose but a bit faint. The flavor was dry, very tart and bitter with a tangy and fruity undertone and a lightly peppery and woody finish again reminiscent of tequila. The finish was long tart, fruity and peppery tequila. Interesting. OSLO (829), Minnesota, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 4/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Mar 6, 2009 [Bottle] Pours reddish-amber with a big, long-lasting beige head. Aroma has solid maltiness, subdued fruit (pineapple), almost a nuttiness after warming. Hops were disappointingly toned down. Taste is interesting--definitely can taste the barrel influence. More malt than expected again, but there is a biting bitterness on the swallow. As it warmed, the taste wore on me. There was just too much malt and not enough other things going on. Decent mouthfeel with a medium-long, semi-dry finish. Very, very smooth. Not sure about how old this bottle is, but I suspect it has some age on it. Would very much like to try this again fresh, but as it was, it was very forgettable. darkguardian (506), Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 3, 2009 Poured a cloudy amber. Big foamy head, in fact the bottle spouted beer and foam for a good minute upon opening. Carbonated very well but not prickly, creamy smooth with notes of lemon citrus zest, ginger and caramel. Slight bitterness and a peppery yeast note. Not really like an IPA I’ve ever heard of it but its an old recipe so who are we to judge. Either way its a great beer.
