Very effervescent off white head. Too much carbonation. Pleasant aroma of chocolate, malty caramel, and cream. Prickly carbonation on the tongue (again, too much CO2). Modest sweetness with a mouth feel that was on the watery side. Nice chocolate flavor with a touch of roasty malt. SledgeJr (2963), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 21, 2006 In the bottle. Pours a black garnet with a beautiful cascading beige head. Aroma is slightly acidic and tart. This did not taste as sweet up front as I had expected, but the finish is outstanding and tastes just like milk! As it warms, I get an aroma of mild sulfur, maybe even chinese fireworks gunpowder. The tingly sweetness emerges mid palate as you drink it. Very interesting and unique. I like it. | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Nov 19, 2006 The 11.2 ounce bottle poured a clear, dark garnet colored beverage with a small fizzy tan head that did not last very long and left almost no lacing on the glass. The aroma presented notes of caramel, dark chocolate with a hint of coffee. The body was medium-light with lively carbonation and a watery texture. The flavor started out lightly bitter with earthy undertones. The finish was fairly short for a stout with the light bitterness lasting through it. invalid (302), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Nov 9, 2006 I don’t really like Sweet Stouts, but I try and review them as non biased as possible. This beer was not very good, however. All I could taste is lactose. Bleh! KAME (156), California, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 27, 2006 Hmmm, aroma of lactose and slightly metallic. Initial flavor is pretty reasonable with some nice roasted notes, but the finish is sour, bitter, and metallic. Definitely one of those beers that you try once, but I wouldn’t buy it again. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 18, 2006 This isn’t bad at all, it reminds me of Le Coq. Of course the alcohol content is much lower. Aroma is wet oak and sour. Flavor is on the sour side as well, some fruit sweetness and a dry finish. I am however, happy I didn’t pay the full retail price of $8; I would feel cheated if I did. Dark mahogany with a small tanish head.
Aroma is kind of boozy for something this low in alc. Chocolate, toffee, milk.
Flavor is prunes, coffee and sour milk.
Finish is sour and slightly acidic.
