Hitachino Nest Real Ginger Ale

Thick, dark chestnut color with a small almost non-existing head. Heavy ginger and medicinal nose. Mild malt presence, but this beer is all about ginger. Sharp, mouthwash-like flavor with a continuing ginger taste. This beer is for ginger lovers.

Pours amber with a very small off-white head, oily on the glass. Nose is sweet, syrupy malt with a bit of ginger. Sweet, malty, creamy/oily mouthfeel, with a ginger flavor in the mix. Not bad.

Rated 7/7/07. Mine had a different label than what is shown on the profile. Hazy reddish brown body with virtually no head or lacing. Aroma is malty, with quite a bit of ginger. Flavor is like a candied ginger explosion! The backbone is malty, and there are quite a few spicy notes, but the sweet ginger really dominates. I had this with spicy sushi as a palate cleanser, and it served its purpose well. That said, I can see myself drinking this by itself on a hot day. I prefer the Hitachino Nest White, as it has an ample amount of ginger blended with a traditional Witbier, but this beer was a unique change of pace. Try it if you want somethig out of the ordinary.

Has a nice malty aroma with a little ginger. The flavor has a big bite at the beginning and end of nothing but ginger. It’s almost at the point of overpowering, but in a way, it succeeds marvelously.

pours cloudy gold. aroma is ginger (no duh), spice, sweet malt, and somewhat hop note. taste has a certain ginger snap with some fizzy sweetness. finishes dry and tangy. interesting brew but not really my bag.

Nice ginger nose! Heavier and sweeter than I was expecting. This is more of a cooler weather ginger ale. On a hot day like today I was wanting a ginger beer that is light and crisp.

Shared bottle at Coastal Wine Connections beer club; Dark copper, almost rusty, virtually no head. Definite ginger bite up front, but this settles into an almost fruity base. Subtley done and one ginger beer I could actually drink. Well put together. (#2963, 6/7/2007)

Red/orange in colour. Super sweet. Hint of ginger, spices and malts. Simple and nice. Exactly what you expect from it. Definitely one of the best Japanese beers I’ve ever had.
