Dark brown, low head. Aroma of ginger, with some caramel and malt. Strong ginger flavor, but also good dark malts, caramel, hops, grass, dark fruit. Ginger is leading the way, but there is a lot else going on in there. Bitter, dry, hop and ginger finish with lingering caramel malts. Much nicer than the draught version, which I found far too sweet.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 19, 2008 Bottle at Hamiltons. Pours with a slightly cloudy, amber-gold body topped by a thin to medium thick head with a good amount of lacing. It’s slightly sweet and full of ginger with underlying malt notes and a slight sourness. Light bodied and smooth. DaSilky1 (2001), San Diego, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Oct 5, 2008 rape me! my entire rating was erased by my cell phone. nose was a candy ginger raped oak barrel, the beer had intensly thick head atop darling amber. flavors were predominantly woody with spicy ginger accents...the wood gives solid sourness overall and the ginger is strong but seems to always remain an accent. blaire from hamiltons offered this to me on the house and completely randomly, but apparently hes been paying attention to what silky likes...cuz silky like dis...and i must give big props to hamiltons, though their tap list sucked that day. in any event, this was hitachino at its sour, woody, and gingery best...what the hellis more could you ask for, seriously. best brewery to ever exist. period. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 5, 2008 Cloudy brown, large white head. Pretty much dominated by ginger in both the aroma and flavor. If you like ginger, you’ll like this beer. Pretty simple, really. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 30, 2008 Pours a cloudy copper color with a good long lasting off-white head that left drippy lacing. Aroma is mostly ginger, with a bit of light toasted malt and fruit. Flavor is similar, but the ginger didn’t come through as much. Very good, but not great. hayduke (1658), Eureka, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 21, 2008 Labeled as "real ginger beer", and ginger is what jumped out at me from a very cloudy amber pour with a good off-white head and a surprising amount of lacing from swirling the beer in the glass. Very smooth mouthfeel and a lively ginger dominated flavor with a very rich and lingering sweet finish. Very enjoyable and I really have to thank bhensonb for sharing this interesting brew.
